Setting up Hot-screensaver.com blog
Sep 8th, 2005 by Neo
I think it is good to share with others how I came about to setup this blog. It may show the beginners how to get certain things done more quickly rather than looking through the docs or the support forum - which I did. However, please remember that I am a no guru in blogging, this guide here merely shows what I did which I post in the form of a mini tutorial.
- The first step is of course to download the brilliant WordPress software from http://wordpress.org/download/. Download the .zip version if you are on Windows like I am.
- After you are done downloading (which should take a while only), follow the “Famous 5-Minute Install” on this page http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress to start the installation. It took me slightly more than 5 minutes to get this done. Anyway, the installation process can’t be simpler I must admit.
- I bet you can’t wait to jump into the Admin section and try things out. Go ahead to login with the randomly generated password. Do keep this password at a safe place because if you lost it you are going to get into big trouble. At the same time you can view your blog website, and it should look completely okay. The default theme is clean and professional. You should pretty much figured out what all the buttons and pages do in the Admin section too.
Untill here, it took me about an hour or so. The blog site looked pretty standard - but I wanted something more colorful.
- To color up the site a bit, I downloaded the Connections theme from http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/. You can try this theme too. Just download it and upload the unzipped files to the “wp-content\themes” folder.
- Once that is done, login to the Admin and navigate to the “Presentations” tab. Click on the “Select” link for the “Connections 1.0″ theme to use the theme. See screenshot:

- Okay, it turned out to be this:

- I thought of Malaysia Boleh and figured I might change the header graphic to something of more Malaysia taste. After a while of digging, I manged to locate the graphic, which is wp-content\themes\connections\img\top.jpg. Simply edit this graphic in your favorite image editor. I used a photo courtesy of Mr Shaw Meng. Looks pretty cool huh?
Time to get some rest. Zzzz
