Laksa, Cuttlefish & Kangkong, and Kerang
Nov 7th, 2005 by Neo
If you love laksa, you have to try Kuala Kangsar’s laksa. It is indeed very different from the rest, although I dare not say it is the best in Malaysia. During my last trip to Kuala Kangsar I have tasted Pak Ngah’s laksa, which turned out to be quite nice. It was not very hot, not too creamy, not too spicy… it was just simple and original

The stall/shop
This time I had the opportunity to sample a stall beside the demolished Rex cinema building. According to my friends, many many years ago, there were 2 cinemas in Kuala Kangsar, and this one was one of them. They used to have a lot of patrons, but because of the arrival of new technologies (VCD, DVD, TGV, GSC, etc) they were closed down. Movie goers would usually patron this food stall before or after the shows.
Besides laksa, they serve rojak, abc, cuttlefish & kangkong , kerang (shellfish) and some others.

Cuttlefish & Kangkong

Kerang (do we call this shellfish?)
These dishes are very cheap by KL’s standards. The cuttlefish & kangkong was quite nice. Come and try it out yourself.

Kerang is cockles. Lala is clams.
The “new technologies” that killed off the old cinemas are actually VHS players, not VCD. This was a time way before you. The same thing happened in my town. We also had a Rex that was demolished, but that was 20 years ago.
Really, great stuff to read, hands of
