Lion Dance Pictures and Video
Feb 5th, 2006 by Neo
What is Chinese New Year without fireworks, ang pows, house-visiting, and lion dances? This year, I have the opportunity to witness several lion dance performances, and of course shoot a lot of photos and even captured the beautiful lions on a video.
Check out some lion dance photos I took while we were having our dinner at a restaurant. I think the restaurant owner believe the lions will bring luck and scare off competitors from his restaurant business

The lion head. Almighty and powerful or not?

Double lion. One blue and one green. A platform was built for them to perform to the onlooking crowd.

Both the lions on the platform which was about 3 or 4 meters high. The drums were rolling! The lions were dancing! The crowd was cheering! I was happily clicking on my digicam!
On another occasion, I recorded a close up lion dance performance at my girl’s home. The brother invited the lion dance wishing the lion will bring good luck in the doggie year. Check out the video below:
I guess this lion dance was performed by secondary school children and some part timers, with mentoring by some veterans. That’s why it looks a bit ordinary

[...] In my previous post Lion Dance Pictures and Video, I talked about Lion Dance. Another tradition of Chinese during this festive season is to give and receive red packets, also known as “Ang Pow”, “Hung Bao”, and “Lai Si” in Cantonese. [...]
lion dance.. haven’t see that for ages already
err.. I see blue and green lion instead of the traditional red lion?
Lions can be different colors that represent different things. There are like northern and southern lions, the only one I remember are the black lions are fighting lions, blue is like maturity
When i was young, i was scared with lion dance. Why? Haha because it was big and the drumming was loud. But now i’m 13 years old and i’m in the lion dance club in my school. The lion head is heavy, but it is fun!
I like lion dance a lot. My favorite lion color is gray and gold. But blue and green lion is nice too, but i just come to know that many use red lions in weddings.
