V-kool, Ecotint, Huper Optik and KristalBond Car Tinting

Why do we need to tint our car?
I can basically think of a few reasons why we should tint our car.
1. Avoid Overheating
Our car’s interior can be a lot cooler during those hot days with proper tinting.
2. Protect Our Skin
Harmful UV rays from the sun can cause skin cancer. A good car tint can block some 90% of these dangerous rays.
3. Accident Protection
In a car accident, tinting can help shattered glass to hold together, thus protecting the occupants of the car.
4. Protect Car’s Interior
Harmful UV rays and heat cause car’s interior to crack and fade. Car tint acts as sunscreen for your car.
5. Looks More Sporty
This is a perceived added value because tinting makes the car look more sporty.
The most well known and popular car tinting in Malaysia has to go to V-kool. And their top range tint is called V-kool elite. Cost wise, I think should be around RM1600++ for a normal saloon.

The other popular window tinting in Malaysia are such as Ecotint, Huper Optik and KristalBond.

Now, which one of these do you think is the best? Some users of Ecotint’s top range, called Ray Barrier actually have this to say about v-kool (the most popular window tinting in Malaysia):
1. V-kool color will change from gold color to green color after 2 to 3 years.
2. Not smart tag friendly, can’t install GPS system.
3. The workmanship from Ecotint is for sure better than v-kool.
4. A lot of imitation of v-kool in market. You don’t know which is real or fake. They can quote you a gold dust with a v-kool elite price.
5. Price for Ecotint Ray Barrier is much cheaper and it performs better than v-kool elite.

Are you thinking of tinting you car’s windows?
yep, i always tint my car windows for all the reasons you mentioned
v-kool is great but kinda limited in choice of colours, i must say
Che-Cheh,
Yes, that’s what I heard also. See point number 2 in my post above.
Wuching,
Yes, bubbles show poor workmanship.
Titoki,
Not really, because I have already tinted my car. But before showing which one I go for, I want to see what others think of the various tinting.
Laksa,
So, which one are you using?
why do people tint their cars? what about for some hanky panky things going on so that people might not easily see what’s going on. hahaha. kidding.
i think heavy tinting is not allowed right? illegal. there is some rule on how much percent the tinting is allowed.
Installed v-kool elite in Feb’06. Warranty form filled immediately. When checked with v-kool HQ 2 days back, said no records. The lady who answered my call told me to “can you get OUR AGENT who installed your tint to fax us your warranty form?”. Bad customer service.

in fact i would like to ask some opinion bout Air Cool, currently i heard this film is the best one. cos this is a top brand in the market.
[...] Still remember that some time back I asked which one of the following window car tinting should I go for my car? Should I choose V-kool, Ecotint, Huper Optik, KristalBond or even Air Cool? Each of them seems to offer different features in terms of percentage of visible light transmitted, level of UV and IR rejection, and also pricing. [...]
i dont face any trouble with my car even its tinted with v-kool to pass the smart tag as the smart tag system have been change to radioactive and not infra red.The best thing is that they have launched the v-kool priviledge card which gives more benefits than harms..no cost incured..its an extra!!
My car tinted with Air cool crystal before, but the color seems like faded after 2-3years. But their customer service not bad, change FOC for me.
Guys, I try everything VKool is the best. Is it OK to tint my car with K28???? Somebody tell me not for cars? Which is better, V40 or K28 the problem with V40 is it looks green

My Kelisa (2004 year made) tinted with Sun Shield, cost me RM400 - 500, i forgotten the exact price. So far is still performing to me, tested under direct Sun light & via the side screen as my arm can felt the difference of temperature is less heat.
Actually, my fren bought a new Honda City in Bukit Jambul, Penang. I come to know that the sales assistant kept on promoting and let my fren know that he is not allowed to take the car out for other shop to apply tint… they insisted that they only want the customer to go to the same row of shop which is only selling few types of window tint… but their main product is Huber Optic, kinda fishy. My fren agreed and he wanted a safety film tint. After a few weeks my frens car side window was broken. Why is that happening? My fren though that safety film are actually hard to be broken and it takes time… the burglar took the laptop which he left in the car… my fren felt cheated because the recommendation of the sales assistant from Honda.
My question is… does the customer have the right to choose other brand of tinting? and why is it the sales assistant have to only give customer to apply it at the same row shop>
Does authorized Honda dealers can have business relationship with that tint shop?
My fren is actually kind of angry when he pays the money but he cannot choose, and is this called syndicate.
I address this to Wilson.
Actually, as a consumer, we have the right to actually say NO to what anyone offers us, we are not obliged to purchase anything from the sales assistance. I must say, in my experience, most of the car dealers (i.e. Toyota, BMW, Mercedes, Honda etc) they tend to worry about warranty void due to the advance technology of the cars. I mean, let’s face it, cars nowadays has more electronic gadets, and these are sensitive! So I guess these SA “recommends” where one should tint their car, it is to avoid the problem with the electronic devices, is left assured that these people know what they are doing.
Anyway, in my case - I was offered by the Honda SA a cheaper version of V KOOL, and when I told them I inisted to visit the shop that does the tinting, I asked the person in charge what was the difference. I was told that at time car dealers gives offers to their customers. Like Honda, they offer V KOOL but it is actually the cheaper version. It doesn’t perform as well as the normal V KOOL in Tint Shop, but it is lighter in colour, lower in performance. It is not widely available (thank goodness!), only through the Honda Promotion. I thought, shit, I am nearly cheated for it, because when I ask for a demo test between the two films (they should have it, since they also install it for other Honda owners!), I can actually tell the difference! In the end, I kindly declined the SA’s offer and when I got my car, I went back to Tint Shop for her advice.
Of course, V KOOL was the main brand. But after discussing and being educated on various films (the lady gave me a crash course, explaining the difference types of films in the market), I settled for a combination - V KOOL / Solar Gard. I find it reasonable and within the means of my budget. Great satisfaction to know where my money actually went- Quality! Good workmanship too!
I just bought a second hand Honda City and would like to tint the whole car. I’ve been offered V-kool (by the Honda service centre where the car is being repaired for minor scratches etc) for RM2,800 and Smart Cool with prices ranging from RM1,500-2,400. I thought V-kool doesn’t cost so much for the whole car. What is the reputation for Smart Cool? Your advice is appreciated. Thanks.
Vkool for $2800? Which one?
i bought a new civic and same thing, the SA offerred me vkool elite which comes with security protection for the side. all in $1800. i told the SA heat rejection is my priority and i know security film’s heat rejection is not as good but i told the SA to give better one, and i dont mind topping up.
when the car came back, i have 3 different tint on the car, WTF! warranty card is from solar gard, and stated - front with Vkool elite, back is solar cool (by solar gard) and side is amour coat 4 mil security. so, i called the SA and asked why 3 brands, and he also blurred and he referred me to the SA @ Vkool. the VK SA said solar gard / amour coat are brands carried by vkool. but i told them this is a misrepresentation becoz i was offerred vkool. and the solar gard heat rejection is lousy. its only 60+ % compared with vkool’s 94%.
After much arguing, we came to a solution, all films tear down, and re-do with vkool elite 70 for front & back, and vkool secure 8mil security. i top up with some $$, but at least, i am satisifed now, coz heat rejection is much better.
sometimes, we are simply not given the choice coz the SA@VK said they usually recommend the cheapest to the customer, but i told her that not all customers want cheap stuff, and some don’t mind topping a bit for the sake of comfort.
so, beware guys……..
