Shogun Japanese Buffet Restaurant at 1 Utama
May 16th, 2006 by Neo
In Japanese history, a shogun was the practical ruler of Japan for most of the time from 1192 to the Meiji Era beginning in 1868. The term Shogun means “General”, an officer of high military rank. But, in 1 Utama shopping complex, Shogun refers to a Japanese buffet restaurant which is much talk about since it opened not too long ago.
As you have gussed, last weekend, we decided to have our dinner there.

When we reached the place, not surprisingly there’s already quite a long queue of people trying to get a table in the restaurant. But worry not, because we have already placed our reservations a few days before that… haha, smart leh

Shogun!
The restaurant is quite huge, and the environment is nice. Very cosy. By looking at the number of tables and diners occupying each one, I estimate that they can accomodate up to 300 diners at any given time.
Anyway, let’s check out the nice Japanese food. I am not able to name each and everyone of them since I am not really a Japanese food lover… but I assure you that there are plenty of varieties.

Vegetables, fried chicken, etc…

Seafood Fettucine and others. Notice that the plates are placed at the lower part of the table.

Barbequed chicken Wing and other hot plates.

Sushi lovers, come here.
Now, take a look at our plates. Full of yummy delicious food!

First round.

Second round.

Third round. Oh, before I forgot, that’s lamb chop!

Fourth round…

Fifth round, the oyster. This one is served by Shogun and not on the buffet tables, it is limited to one oyster per head.
How many rounds like this can you take? Before long, we were all stuffed to the point that we found it difficult to stand and breath at the same time. Haha… too greedy for buffet food and swallowed everything as much as we can. Dessert time I guess.

Colorful cakes. Tastes soft and delicious.

Fruits. Good to take some fruits after your dinner?

Lastly of course the ice cream. A buffet will not be complete without a cup of ice cream.
They serve varieties of ice cream, including the usual vanila, chocolate, strawberry and pantan flavor. However, I didn’t come across green tea ice cream, not sure whether they have it or not.

Our table
Damage: RM50++ per head, not too bad.
Overall, we had a really good time at Shogun and would probably go there again next time. A piece of advice if you do decide to try this restaurant. Call and make reservations first, otherwise you might end up waiting in the long queue for an hour or two, especially during dinner time!

[...] Time for the Second-class Photographer to come on stage again. Right before my Shogun dinner at 1 Utama the other day, I managed to watch the last few minutes of the Fashion Show. This is all because I arrived late, around 6:30pm! Anyway, it was still lucky that I can still manage to see some pretty chicks on the stage. I didn’t pay any attention to their latest fashion, I could only see the chicks [...]

[...] Ask permission from the restaurant owner? No, absolutely no. Never ask permission to eat, and never ask for permission before I take any pictures. But some restaurant owners will stop you from taking pictures, and that happened to me at Shogun Japanese Buffet Restaurant at 1 Utama. Luckily I have had enough of snapping already. They don’t know we are doing free promotion for them. [...]

There’s a lot of fresh & very delicious food there… such like fresh Oysters (not bakes), fresh & pretty sweet coconuts, several soups, many many types of sushi / cakes / ice-creams, tempanyaki, and many many more ….
this is just my comments to Jogoya japanese rest. Shogun i haven’t try them out yet, well.. let me try 2molo and let’s shared with others later.

It’s it all type of food here served sake in the cooking. Please tell me if any food is 100% Halal here.
I called today for reservation… but I told the guy that received my call that I haven’t confirm the number of person coming to dine in Shogun. He said harshly that he need to know the number of people right now. So I told him that I’ll call later. Then he went slamming down my call. I think it’s very rude for him to do that. I won’t go to Shogun in the future.
Hey Charmaine, just wanna let you know you din missed anything. I’d tried it. Not vary fantastic after all. There are lots of better place to go.

Hi all
Lately Shogun seems to be getting a lot of negative reviews. IS there any other better Japanese buffet restaurants that serve similar number of dishes?
GW,
Of course there are others. You can try out Jogoya, which is located at the Relish Floor, Starhill Gallery, Jalan Bukit Bintang.
They serve much more variety of Japanese dishes, but at slightly higher price. RM78 to RM88 per pax if I am not mistaken. Price differs slightly depending on the time of the day (lunch, late lunch, or dinner).
Please let me know the actual & current price per pax now … tQ..

TIME:
