Ecotint Ray Barrier Window Tinting
May 27th, 2006 by Neo
Still remember that some time back I asked which one of the following window car tinting should I go for my car? Should I choose V-kool, Ecotint, Huper Optik, KristalBond or even Air Cool? Each of them seems to offer different features in terms of percentage of visible light transmitted, level of UV and IR rejection, and also pricing.

My dream car.
After some consideration and advise from a friend of mine who has used Ecotint before, I have decided to use Ecotint. Went to their workshop in USJ to find out more details.
Ecotint offers 4 types of tinting films. They are listed as following:
Ray Barrier
- Visible Light Transmitted: 63%
- Ultraviolet (UV) Rejected: 99.5%
- Infrared (IR) Rejected: 95%
- Total Solar Energy/Heat Rejected: 60%
Platinum
- Visible Light Transmitted: 60%
- Ultraviolet (UV) Rejected: 99.5%
- Infrared (IR) Rejected: 90%
- Total Solar Energy/Heat Rejected: 56%
Green
- Visible Light Transmitted: 60%
- Ultraviolet (UV) Rejected: 99.5%
- Infrared (IR) Rejected: 86%
- Total Solar Energy/Heat Rejected: 54%
Silver Blue
- Visible Light Transmitted: 55%
- Ultraviolet (UV) Rejected: 99.5%
- Infrared (IR) Rejected: 82%
- Total Solar Energy/Heat Rejected: 52%
A quick test using their testing tool, a light bulb and some films revealed very small difference between the different range of films. However, they did cut off a lot of heat from the light bulb. You can feel it with your hand!
After some consideration, I decided to go for their top range film - the Ray Barrier
The cost was a whooping RM1600 for a Honda City (a normal saloon). It would cost you RM2k if it were a MPV or van.
Let’s check out some pictures.

In the workshop. Toyota Vios vs Honda City. Which one do you prefer?

Man at work at the Honda City. The panels on the doors have to be opened slightly in order to make way for the film later on.

The installer enjoying the nice seat while installing the tinting on the front windscreen. The window was sprayed with some soapy water so that the film will stick on easily after that.

Installing the tinting on the rear window.
It took them roughly 3 hours to complete the installation of my car. It sounds a bit long because there were actually 2 cars to be completed before mine. Anyway, the waiting was quite all right since their waiting room is air conditioned and complete with Astro, so you could enjoy your show while waiting to collect your car.

Can you tell us the reason you choose Ecotint over the other brands ?
aiyo! got bubbles wan wor!
Che-Cheh,
A friend of mine is using Ecotint and according to him, it is very good. So far, I am satisfied with the Ecotint tinting
Wuching,
No bubbles wor.
I’ve just had my Toyota Innova tinted with EcoTint Ray Barrier about 1 week ago at EcoTint HQ in Taipan USJ. Their service was very good. When the technicians couldn’t cure a small bubble the size of half a rice grain for the front windscreen, they replaced the whole film with a new one. Very impressed with their professionalism.
After driving for a day, I noticed a bubble appeared at the bottom of the front screen and a small dot inside a side window and went to their branch at Taman Billion (next to Kaki Corner). The technician fixed up the bubble problem immediately and told me to see them again if the small dot did not disappear after one week. No questions asked! He promised to replace it with a new film if the dot is still there. Again, quite impressed with their good service.
Like they say, the test of the pudding is in the eating. I drove my MPV outstation for a short holiday last weekend to test out the effectiveness of Ray Barrier. My, my, am I impressed! I was very impressed by the heat shielding during the hot afternoon drive for the return journey. You see, I took a bath at the holiday resort at noon before checking out, like I alway did in the past, and started the journey home. 3.5 hours of driving under the scorching hot sun (stopby for lunch in Ulu Yam)will require me to take another bath on reaching home. That was in the past, else couldn’t go to sleep coz of sweaty body. However, this time round after installing EcoTint, I didn’t feel any obvious sweating. I for once did not take a second bath on reaching home (though it would have been better if I did but was feeling lazy yesterday.) I slept soundly with no feeling of sweaty body. That’s how effective EcoTint can be.
Another point to note is that the Ray Barrier film is SmartTag and car park tag friendly. I hesitated using V-Kool as I have been fully aware of the problem faced by my colleagues using V-Kool. My colleagues have to open the car door every time to flash their parking tag when drive thru the tag reader. I am so very glad that I do not have to do it as Ray Barrier is tag friendly. The hesitation for V-Kool - though it admittedly is a reputable brandname - and a 10-month wait was worth it.
Very satisfied with EcoTint film and their excellent service.
Guys,
Noticed that EcoTint Ray Barrier has a low visible light transmitted at 63% only. Do we face problem with smart tag if we installed such film?
thank you!
Bryan,
As many EcoTint users point out, EcoTint Ray Barrier is smart tag friendly. No problem with smart tag and car park tags!
Guys, what is the price range for Ray Barrier? what choice of color we have? can u guys recomend any places around Penang?
Hello,
I have also just installed EcoTint Ray Barrier in my new car.
Just wanted to share something my SA told me last week about Ecotint pricing. Apparently, Ecotint will be raising their prices by about RM200 in about 2 weeks. I am not sure how true this news is but it may be worth finding out.
Bryan,
Price for Ray Barrier is as follows:
Normal Saloon & 2 Doors 4×4: RM1,600
Luxury Saloon & Station Wagon: RM1,800
4 Doors 4×4, MPV & Van: RM2,000
This is the price I got from them about 1 month ago.
For Ray Barrier, there is only one color which is very light gray. The color is so light that once installed you may not even notice it.
Linnie,
Thanks for informing. Bryan, you better hurry up, however, not sure if you can get Ecotint in Penang.
I, too installed Ecotint Ray Barrier on my car.
The temperature in the car can go up to above 45 degree in a hot afternoon before I entered the car. But it cooled down fast. Just to share with you - there are 2 specs of Ray Barrier. For the front, they used model 3880A which has 99.5% UV shield, 80% infra red ray shield while for the other windows they used model 3863A which has 99.5% UV shield, 95% infra red ray shield (the one they demo to you). The specs are stated in their Ray Barrier brochure.
Yup agree with eevee. Further info on Ray Barrier. http://www.ecotint.com/automotive.html
A friend of mine is using Ecotint , it is very good. So far, I am satisfied with the Ecotint Ray-barrier
Can anyone give me the address or contact info. of the Ecotint authorised dealer or branch in Penang? I would be highly obliged.
Also how much would it cost me for Ecotinting a new toyota vios? Is it comparable to V-kool?
