Asia Lantern Carnival 2006
Jun 5th, 2006 by Neo
The Asia Lantern Carnival 2006 is currently being held at the National Sports Complex at Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. I passed by the place a few times and was really amazed by the colorful lanterns being displayed which we can peek from the roadside. Last weekend, finally we managed to go to have a closer look.

Disneyland.
The entrance ticket costs RM5 per head. These days, we will need to buy tickets for each and every event and carnival. Parking was very convenient mainly because we reached the place late at night at about 10pm, and they have a hugh car park in Bukit Jalil. Parking is charged at RM1.50 per entry. Anyway, let’s look at the pictures!

Dragon Lantern.
This is a hugh dragon lantern. I think it’s about 100 meters long, and is built with hundreds if not thousands of porcelain plates, bowls, cups and spoons. Then it is fitted with beautiful lights that dances with music. A magnificent masterpiece.

Claws of the porcelain dragon.
Look at the hugh claws. Can imagine how long is the whole dragon…

Cute pandas.
Since lantern is traditionally originated from China, it is not surprising to see pandas here. They are so adorable!

Arabian Nights.
A big castle from the Arabian Nights. There are Aladdin, camels, horses and some other characters from the fairy tales stories too. The kids simply love this one!

Aladdin on a white elephant.

A a beautiful mosque.
Is this the mosque in Shah Alam?

An eagle majestically poised just like the one in Eagle Square (Dataran Langkawi), Langkawi.
Upon closer inspection, the eagle is built from compact discs! Thousands of them stick together, how amazing does that sound? Perhaps the sheer amount of the CDs went into this eagle is enough to go into Malaysia’s Book of Guinness Records. The CDs are making the statue glittering.

Olympics in Beijing 2008?

Monkeys.
Is this the naughty monkey from the Journey to the West? Maybe no, because Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing are no where to be seen.

Dinosaur.

Giraffe lantern, with rainbow at the back.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarf.
Although Snow White didn’t look very good and white at all, but the kids still very much love their favorite princess from Disney

Beautiful Phoenix Lantern.
The delicate body of the phoenix is made up of more than a hundred thousand dried silky worm cocoons. The final visual under the bright light is truly breath-taking!

Imperial Fu Dogs Figurines.
These animals are supposed to bring good luck and protect the owner’s home and work place.

Petronas Twin Towers.
One of the world’s tallest buildings - Petronas Twin Towers, or also known as the KLCC.

A cute cat sitting in the dark corner.

Perdana Putra Complex.
This lantern is inspired by the administrative building Perdana Putra Complex in KL.

Date of Roses.

Ali Baba.
A masterpiece inspired by one of the Arabian Nights stories, “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves”.
So, there you have it… Tonnes of photos I took during the carnival. If you enjoyed the photos, then please leave some comments below to let me know

[…] Haha, don’t rush to KLCC to watch this cool display yet, you won’t find it there. Instead go to the Asia Lantern Carnival 2006 because this dancing Petronas Twin Towers is one of the exhibits there […]
[…] This can be anything from 10 minutes to 2 hours. The easier copy and paste posts can be completed in roughly 10 minutes (not 1 minute, because of content and pictures editing). For posts with a lot of pictures, such as the one on Asia Lantern Carnival 2006, it will take much longer because of the tonnes of photos to edit and to upload. […]
