DIY Fixing a Leaking Tap
Jul 21st, 2006 by Neo
Sometimes water taps can be naughty too. One of them in my house was caught being naughty since a couple of weeks back. Haha… it’s a dripping tap lar
The water I meant is the one we mainly use for the washing machine’s hose.

Dripping tap.
Now, how do you fix a naughty tap like that? A naughty dripping tap can be an annoyance as well as a waste of water. You could either call a plumber or fix it yourself. Anyway, let me share with you how I did it so that you could do the same when you have a naughty tap at home.
Upon enquiry at a DIY shop, they told me that this type of tap need to be replaced with a new one since the washer cannot be replaced, and it can be done very easily.
The first thing is of course to get the supply from the DIY shop.

The new tap, and tapes.
The new tap costs RM12 only. Not sure how much the tapes cost because I got them from my store room… left over from long time ago. This type of tap is better since the washer can be replaced when it become less efficient in the future. Wrap the tape anti-clockwise around the threaded tail of the tap.
After that, turn off the water supply. Locate the water stopcock and turn clockwise until it stops. Don’t force it or you may break the valve. Now, it’s time to get rid of the old tap. Just hold on the spout of the tap and turn it anti-clockwise. Use a spanner to help if it’s too tight.
After that, put the new tap in place of the old one. This should be pretty straight forward and I do not need to explain any further. Once the it is tight and in place, turn on the water supply again. I suggest that at first you turn it on just a little bit and then go and check for leaks. If you see no leaks, then you are at home! Well done.
If you see any leaks, then call Bomba Malaysia
