Since a couple of months ago, all BP petrol stations in Malaysia started to renovate to a new identity. Out of the many colors in this world, they have chosen the striking orangy yellow color as their corporate color! In my humble opinion, it’s so ugly!

BHPetrol.
You think the design is nice? Mind you, this particular petrol station is still under renovation… after which you should expect to see more orange and yellow!
You will find our new orange stations located nationwide quite a sight to behold. Like an oasis in a modern day desert, you can be rest assured that when you refuel at BHPetrol stations you will get the best in service and fuel.
From BHPetrol website.
Indeed, it’s a sight to behold! I am not sure about their fuel and service because I have yet to try them… but after looking at their yucky yellow logo, I don’t think I will go near them unless I am really running out of gas or dying for a snack!
So, what happened to the former nice looking BP? Once again, Google came to the rescue, looks like they have been bought over… Check this.
What do you think of BHPetrol’s new identity and logo?

the green with yellow font used to be better …
but heck with it, they chosed orange with yellow font … the fond should contrast with the backgroud … it just look plain ugly …
Hi Neo,
I totally agree with you on the new identity of BP. Orange seems like a supermarket to me. Furthermore, the logo design is really bad considering BP is internationally known. The logo seems like a rush job and is just at the initial stage. Good petrol logos are Shell and Petronas.
its horrible. some parts of the pump are left green, so the clashing of colors are a pain on the eyes.
this is bad marketing man …
I think abit ugly only. Maybe you guys not used to it yet.
eh.. orange with yellow? ok mah, ok than green color ler.. haha…
Orange color with Yellow? ok mah.. I think it is better than green with yellow right? hahaa..
I agree with Simon. There is still some green colour left at the pump. The Orange colour looks so ugly….
whats the h stands for?
Didn’t BP sell off their stations a couple of months back? I actually don’t think that this is BP but another company. What do you think?
Wuching, no idea what’s the h doing there. What do you all think?
Wuching,
The “h” could stand for “Holdings”. So, BHPetrol is Boustead Holdings Petrol.
Andreas,
Boustead acquired 70% interest in BP Malaysia Sdn Bhd. Does this mean it’s a different company now?

I just call BP Card Centre to enquire regarding the scratch for the rewards, then when I ask the one of the customer service rep. whether she can give me the telephone number for the BP station? She replied with very bad manners, very impatient and annoying, she said, “PERGILAH CARI SENDIRI” what kind of service are your prodiving? Heh… I am supporting you all the while…
The old BP petrol stations have been bought over by local Co. My personal view would be that they have been downgraded from being international std to becoming a local std. So, you will definitely get a local standard logo.
Mind you, Boustead is owned by LTAT (Defense Ministry). Should give them a chance to make a different impact in local market. Remember, they are now a local company similar to Petronas but still just learning to crawl/walk.
…bhp…save my petrol..money..transportations..
First of all i am not clever about branding;
I think the CEO of the company does not trust brand agency or any design consultant. And probably BHP thingy came out their own idea without research on the branding. I don’t know…..
I personally much prefer BP branding than BHP petrol now. I dont know i cannot force myself to love that yellow & orange. Looks massive and not well-planning. It just last minutes work i would say.
I don’t see many people stop at their station. They prefer PETRONAS or Shell.
My message to BOD/CFO/Mgt: Let the agency do their work. Please do not disturb them and stop being conservative!
Thanks
[...] BHPetrol stations are usually quiet, but last night it was perhaps their best day in many years! Huge amounts of traffic queening for BHPetrol fuels just to have a last taste of cheaper fuel! Hahaha… that was a sight to be captured and remembered! [...]
