Sony Cyber Shot DSC-H5

That’s the megazoomer, Sony Cyber Shot DSC-H5 which features an image stabilized 12x optical zoom, manual, aperture and shutter priority modes and electronic viewfinders. What impress me is the megazooming capability of the camera. Just imagine 12x image stabilized zoom… now I can see clearly what my neighbour is doing behind the windows. Haha, just joking lar Add the massive zoom to the image stabilizer, the camera should make wonders!

Oh, it’s capable to churn out 7.2 megapixels too! This definitely beats my current compact camera, Sony DSC P10 at a mere 3x optical zoom and 5 megapixels max.

Now, let’s see how Canon answers to Sony.

Canon Powershot S3 IS

There you are, the answer is Canon PowerShot S3 IS, successor to the popular PowerShot S2 IS. This camera also features a 12x optical zoom, 6.0 megapixel CCD sensor, optical image stabilizer technology and video functionality rivalling that of dedicated digital video camcorders.

The dimension of the Canon is slightly smaller than that of the Sony, and frankly it feels more solid in my hands. Maybe due to the material they use or the finishing which is in gunmetal grey.

Alghough Canon only offers 6.0 megapixel as opposed to Sony’s 7.2, I believe it’s quite insignificant since usually I take pictures for 4R prints or for my websites. So we don’t really need so much megapixels anyway

A good feature on the Sony is that it has a large 3-inch screen! Canon’s is a 2-inch vari-angle LCD screen where we can flip and turn it around for different angle shooting needs.

Now you may wonder why I brought this topic up… Hehe, simple. I am thinking of upgrading my current camera So, what do you think? Which camera is a better buy? Both costs roughly the same at RM1800.
