Mahathir Lost in Kubang Pasu
Sep 11th, 2006 by Neo
Today is a lame Monday, so let’s start the week with something lame too. What could be more suitable than the Kubang Pasu election?
Our former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed lost an election last Saturday (9th September) in Kubang Pasu, Kedah to become a delegate at the UMNO’s party general assembly later this year in November.
It’s reported that the ruling party UMNO had been fearful that Dr Mahathir would use this general assembly to step up his attacks on the government, which have caused big chaos through Malaysian politics.
The 81-year-old has been accused of trying to bring down the government with caustic attacks on successor Abdullah Badawi, to whom he handed over power in 2003 after 22 years.
He has accused Datuk Seri Abdullah of nepotism and corruption and of damaging the economy and dismantling his legacy by reversing some major decisions including a plan to build a new bridge to Singapore.
Thestar reported that Dr Mahathir received only 227 votes and was ninth in the polls.
Malaysiakini reported the same, but also noted that his son, Mukhriz is one of the selected candidate with 289 votes, 5th highest number of votes. Not sure if he would try to speak for his father at the annual assembly?
It was a shocking and humiliating defeat for the 81-year-old, who reportedly left the party room before the final count was completed.

so old still wanna meddle in politic!
the old man should just retire from everything! hasn’t he had enough of politics of all the years being the PM?
he should get a life
Poor Mahathir!
He is so insulated from reality, he thinks his country’s citizens will rally to his side. That’s what autocracy does to a person in absolute power for a long time. He couldn’t tell the truth from falsehood before, because his advisors fear to tell him the truth. Now he can’t tell day from night, because his handlers don’t have the heart to break the news to him that he is irrelevant. What a downfall. What utter humiliation - this is something even his own enemies couldn’t have planned.
