World Chinese Badminton Championships
Oct 1st, 2006 by Neo
I have just came back from witnessing the 13th edition of the World Chinese Badminton Championships which is being held at Michael’s Badminton Academy (MBA), Bandar Puteri, Puchong. This is a three days event which started on Friday and will end on Sunday.

You have to admit that Michael Lee, the boss of MBA, is a great and influential badminton fanatic for being able to host such a significant event. Not surprisingly, a badminton championship of this magnitude attracted participation of a whopping 1,250 players comprising 500 locals and 750 foreigners. The 13 foreign countries and territories taking part are China, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Macau, United States, Hong Kong, Australia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore and Japan.
As usual, the Second-class Photographer took this great opportunity to make good use of his digital camera, utilising the fullest its 12x optical zoom! Let me show you some world class badminton.

This was one of the singles matches. Both of them are young and their strokes were very powerful and good. The smashes were accurate and powerful. One of the best match of the night I suppose.

You recognise the participant above? He is Heryanto Arbi of Indonesia! Gold medalist at the IBF World Championship in year 1995. Yes, former World Champion also participated in this championship. But don’t worry, if you participated in this championship you will never meet him because you are most likely in a different category. There are 76 categories to be exact. So I guess there is a category specifically designed for former national players.

Although he captured that world championship more than a decade ago, Heryanto Arbi is still pretty fast and has deadly smashes! Pity his opponent.
Let’s move on to the other courts and see what goodies they have.

The men’s doubles. Both you and your partner got to have good understanding and work as a team. Of course you need to produce accurate and powerful smashes! That’s vital in men’s double.

Mixed double match. A lot of burden is placed on the men. They have to do a lot of hard work while the women are usually taking care of net shots and creating opportunities for his male partner to finish off with smashes.

More badminton matches. The organiser is very smart in utilising the available 28 courts (out of a total of 32 courts). Two courts have been reserved for the stage while the other two courts will serve as the VIP stage.

Seen here is a hugh badminton racket and a gigantic shuttlecock, placed beside the stage. No, you can’t play badminton with these, they are much taller than two of you combined! Futhermore, they are made of stainless steel!
Okay, let’s end today’s report with a nice video. (Note: the video is still being processed on Youtube as of time of posting. If you can’t see it, then please try again later.)
Perhaps tomorrow I will also turn up for the final. So, stay tuned for more tomorrow! Don’t change channel

Hoho, seems like they’re very talented in their own field. Poor on me, even I played with my younger brother (standard 5 to be exact), I lost! *sigh*
Bitol
eh! why everyone standing lidat watching ah? dun they have seats meh?
Bitol,
You should come to watch the matches. They are awesome!
Wuching,
That’s Malaysian style, like to watch the matches close. Can feel the power and energy!
Actually there are 3 halls. 1 big one and two smaller ones. The smaller halls have very limited seats, so not enough to accomodate the hugh crowd, then everybody just stand and watch. Some sat on the floor too.
In the big hall, there are more seats, but unfortunately the orginiser place the less exciting matches to be played there, so the seats are pretty much useless. They should arrange to get the more exciting matches to be played in the big hall!
Check the pictures above. The mixed doubles matches are played in the big hall.
Hey, post pics of the finals!
Thanks!
[...] Mind you, it’s even in the Malaysia Book of Records. This center has a total of 32 badminton courts, and recently it made headlines in local media by hosting the 13th edition of World Chinese Badminton Championships. [...]
