Malaysians, beware of your Language!

This is something interesting that I read on Yahoo News. However, I didn’t recall I have read it in local newspaper The Star, perhaps I missed it.
The report goes like this…
Malaysia will levy fines on those incorrectly using the national language, and will set up a specialized division to weed out offenders who mix Malay with English, news reports said Thursday.
Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Rais Yatim said fines of up to 1,000 ringgit ($271) can be imposed on displays with any wrong or mutated form of Malay, the Star newspaper reported.
The move was to ensure “the national language was not sidelined in any way,” Rais said, according to The Star.
Oh my God, fines for incorrectly using Bahasa Malaysia, does this sound a little weird and never heard of? You may not believe me, but you should believe what Yahoo News reports. Now you think I am joking?
So, what do you have to say on this move by the Government?

Hehehe, read that in the paper. Very the siao lah. What they should arrest is the decline of proper BM by those whose mother tongue is BM. Have you seen those who write something like:
utk menaikkan scene kita, para ….join jer ah…. x kisah dia terer ke x…klu ko ngan org terer…kira untung gak….psl diaorg bley ajar….
And that’s what they call freedom of speech?
Interesting. Malaysian government ’sure is’ thinking out of the box now. I wonder how many weeks this will be on for until it is fully called off?
Another joke by the government. LMAO, indeed.
Hahaha… funniest joke of the month!
Lilian, OMG, where did you saw that?
Ray, I bet not for long!
duh… how not frequent english speaker people can speak english if they can’t rojak the language. he3.
like that pun boleh ah?
Then we will see the shop name like 7-11 (seven-eleven) been forced to change to 7-11 (tujuh-sebelas).. haha…
What a joke. Hehe
i thought the fine is for incorrect/improper usage of BM on signboards only, not for everyday use/speak.
i saw it in the star paper dated 5 oct.
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2006/10/5/nation/15635115&sec=nation
it was reported the cabinet allow dewan bahasa dan pustaka to fine people for incorrect usage of BM on signboards. i did thought of blogging about it but then other more interesting (political) issues surfaced so didn’t.
yalah since what you thought is a funny joke and doesn’t make sense… well it doesn’t if it applies for all usage, but the report was meant for incorrect usage of signboards (or even road signs) only.
Let’s count how many Malay word from English…
Stesen
Seksen
Seks
…..
So many le… How come we won’t mixed it? In the same time, KL all people talking Bahasa KL, not even Malay, after a long time, everyone forgot what is the actual word already la… Go and ask them not to use Bahasa KL first bah?
Ooh.. Only for signboards huh? Then again, why can’t the government just acccept the fact that Manglish (or Rojak) has been used even before independance? The use of Manglish is also a way to show Malaysian’s characteristic as a multicultural country with different unique languages.
Well, just my two cents anyway. At the end of the day, I don’t really care.
jangan main main
