Yonex Badminton Racket
Dec 6th, 2006 by Neo
I think today is a good day for me to show you my badminton racket… which has a broken string! Look at the totally destroyed string, that is what you will get when your smash is too powerful, the string is literally blown into pieces!

I have a few badminton rackets, and this is my favorite one which I always use and has accompanied me in many tough matches. It’s Yonex Carbonex 20 Special.
The string I am using on this racket is RSL Super TI 630 with 25 pounds of tension. I quite like this string because it last longer and cheap! This particular one lasted me a couple of months already. Previously I tried Yonex’s BG65 and BG66, but they tend to break within a few weeks of play… and furthermore they are more expensive compared to RSL TI (titanium) which costs RM21 only to string.
You need to know where to do the stringing too, some places in KL charge as much as RM25
My favorite place for stringing is this sports equipment shop in Bandar Puteri Puchong called AJ Racket Mart, which occupies a half-shop lot just opposite the biggest badminton complex in Malaysia, Michael’s Badminton Academy (MBA).

AJ Racket Mart.
AJ Racket Mart supplies a large range of badminton rackets and related equipments such as shoes, shuttlecocks, t-shirts and sports pants at very reasonable prices. The owner is quite a friendly fella too, sometimes he will offer you drinks if you frequent him
p/s: I am not a business partner of AJ

Hey! I’m using the same racquet like you! http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger2/3645/4291/1600/753368/10112006211_edited.jpg
I think your strings snapped because of your tension..? Too much for the old Carbonex I think
I’m planning to get a pair of proper Badminton shoes soon, but got to wait until I’m back to Malaysia
Mine is strung with BG65, tension about 21 I think, but there’s a small crack on the frame. So if I snap the strings, the whole thing will probably break
Little Ray,
That’s a good racket, right? I don’t think the tension is the main cause for the string to snap so fast, because a Carbonex racket like this should be able to sustain up to 25 pounds; that’s confirmed by the shop owner who did the string for me.
21 pound is not enough lar. Go for at least 24
Why you need to wait until you are back to Malaysia, your place don’t have badminton shoes ah?
Wa, want to make this into a chatting corner? Okay I chat with you here. LOL. Erm, it IS a good racquet.. It’s just that compared to others, mine doesn’t seem to be able to deliver very powerful smashes. Maybe not powerful enough or the tension not enough. And because of the crack, I dare not restring or do anything anymore. My place.. Perth here no badminton shoes la, maybe I didn’t search enough. Even if got also very expensive.
Don’t need to buy here la, better buy when I go back. Maybe.. 2 weeks from now?
If I have extra cash, maybe should get myself a new racquet too. Any recommendations? I’m not good with powershots, probably need something light to accommodate my speed (not that fast anyway). I think my budget will be about.. RM250-300…? Haha, I don’t want to spend too much la, I’m not that good anyway
Haha… ask all your badminton friend to come here and chat!
Since there is a crack already, better just buy a new one, can use this one as spare. With your big budget like that, can buy a very nice racket already; no recommendations from myself but you can always pay AJ Racket Mart a visit, the owner is a nice fella he might have some tips for you.
You are thinking of getting a lighter racket? I think this racket is just nice, not too heavy and not too light. If you go for something lighter, then it will be more flexible but will reduce the smashing power! Baseline strokes will be more difficult too.
aiya tie urself lah! just pull hard hard b4 tying a knot!
hey you’re so power ar…fuiohhhh
Hmm, I think Carbonex 20 is a little bit heavy la. After I buy, I’ll use the Carbonex to train, and get a little lighter one to play. As for smashing, I really need to work on my own power la. I’m not that powerful myself
Wrist not flexible enough.. Backhand also not very stable.. My movement also not natural. Wa, so many complains. Nevertheless, I’m going to play in 2 hours’ time
I’m flying to Malaysia on the 21st, next Thursday. Planning to get myself an Armortech 700, shoes, string, grip. The shopkeeper will be happy
Any idea how much the racquet will cost at this shop? I’m probably dropping by there, and any idea their business hours on Friday?
Little Ray,
How’s your holiday in Malaysia? Have you bought the Armotech 700 racket and all the other gears you mentioned?
Sorry, I have not been able to check the price for you
Don’t worry about it. Well, I did check the price, and I ended up buying MP66 instead :S Armortec 700 is just too expensive for me. Thanks for replying though, and Merry Christmas to you
How’s MP66? But I still wonder how much that Armortech 700 costs, haven’t got a chance to visit the badminton shop lately.
Merry Xmas to you too! Do enjoy your stay in Malaysia.
Actually I haven’t try it out yet. Just bought it cause I think it looks really good and felt good. Armortec 700 is 949, after discount about 700+. Can be found in Pertama Complex. All of the shops there sell about the same price.
Thanks, I am enjoying my stay here. Get good food here
I know Armortec 700 is expensive, but don’t know it’s that expensive! Anyway, I guess you can’t get better bargain at any other places other than Pertama Complex. It’s wise to stay away from such expensive rackets.
[...] You can get one from AJ Racket Mart if you want [...]
who believed i went to MBA for a course before?
morning,
saya nak tanya, berapa kah sekarang harga raket badminton carbonex 21 sp.berapakah tension yang paling sesuai untuk jenis ini.
big ray,
Yupe, I did notice MBA they have training sessions, usually during the afternoon and mornings in the weekends. But the students are mostly kids. How was your training in MBA?
matts,
I think for Yonex Carbonex 21 sp, the price should be around RM160-RM170. Not too sure because I bought it years ago. The tension I guess is best at 25 pound which is exactly what I am using.
i’m using the same racquet as you. but now i ‘ve bought yonex Ti3. better than carbonex( thats what i feel)
hi,
Berapa harga satu helai t shirt yonex???
hi…
i used to have an exactly similar racquet as you… i had owned it for more than 12 years… but a friend of mine borrowed and lost it 2 weeks ago… i feel so sad as it was a good company for me…
i tried to look for pictures of carbonex 20 sp so that i can keep them as memory but i could not…
can you do me a favor by takin some pics of your racquet and post them up here or email them to me? or perhaps, can you give links where i can find some pics?
many thanks…
