Highway Toll Rates Hike Like Crazy
Dec 15th, 2006 by Neo
Today (ah, it’s 1:30am now, technically should be yesterday), Works Minister, Datuk Seri Samy Vellu announced the Mount Kinabalu hikes of toll rates in Klang Valley, starting from 1st January 2007. Toll rates increase in between RM0.30 to RM1.
The new toll charges are as following:-
Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP): RM1.60 (previously RM1)
Lebuhraya Shah Alam: RM2.20 (RM1.50)
Lebuhraya Cheras-Kajang: Batu 9, RM 1 (70 sen)
Lebuhraya Cheras-Kajang: Batu 11, 90 sen (60 sen )
Lebuhraya KL-Karak-Gombak: RM5
Lebuhraya KL-Karak-Bentong: RM3 (RM2.50)
Lebuhraya Koridor Guthrie: RM1.40 (RM1)
If all these stupid numbers blew your mind, then let’s look at a picture as people say a picture is worth a thousand words.

New and old toll rates for the 5 major highways in Malaysia. Sorry, can’t find any picture with English descriptions. Picture courtesy of Chinapress.com.my.
Unfortunately LDP has the biggest percentage of increase, as high as 60%. Unfortunate because yours truly stays in Puchong and everyday have to use this jam highway to get out of Puchong. That’s the only way to go to KL, Petaling Jaya, Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, and where-ever. Puchong people do not have much choice, isn’t it?
Now, I think I will have to look after my budget more carefully. 1 trip through the toll will cost me RM0.60 more… round trip is RM1.20! Every month, that number will definitely scare me… I dare not think too much now.
Not too long ago, petrol hike already make me skinny… now this stupid hike? Malaysia Boleh!

Lost faith in the Government, have you?
compare to melbourne ur tolls are so damn cheap i jeles liao!
Wuching,
Compared to Malaysia, your Salaries are so damned high. Is it Aussie 12 per hour for professionals?
This is Samy Vellu & his gang are practising Robin Hood’s reversd nobility - Robbing the marginaled affordable (with cars) to help the super rich cronies with this easy toll extortion.
Yet our gorverment can build a sport complex in London costing RM400 mil. Send some dudes to the space to play batu seremban RM90mil. Build a new palace RM400 mil, send a women to North Pole RM??mil. Donation to Cambridge University RM500 mil. What more can a normal rakyat says about our government. Bravo bravo… BN you’ve done a GREAT JOB. Visit http://www.malaysia-today.net for more news!
*Titoki lelong her Ms Mocha Berry online. She wanna find a bf to drive for her.*
Wuching you silly, does Melbourne has tolls all around the city? Melbourne definately cannot fight Malaysia for the amount of toll we have in the Klang Valley itself. In Malaysia you have no choice but to use the highway to go to work, is it the same in Melboune? You make my blood boiled making such comment, guess you’re one of those spoil brat studying in overseas and donno how hard is life for the average Malaysian. Do you know how much we suffer due to petrol hike, water tariff hike, electricity tariff hike? Grow up pls.
Wuching, be fair to Malaysians. You can’t compare a single item to what Malaysians have in Malaysia. That is totally unfair to Malaysians.
If you want to compare; then compare everything you can get in Melbourne. I wish you can have your eyes opened since you are abroad.
I’m abroad also but we don’t pay toll here while we are driving in highway. So, how? Besides, the public transport systems here are great. You can reach any where in time, I reapet in time. Well, possible in Malaysia? Malaysians are suffer for high living costs nowadays especially those lower-income groups. Don’t you think high crime rates now in Malaysia are closely related to these kinds of problems?
I sincerely wish you can look, think, disgest the statement before you make any comment.
hahahaha..good one! lets hantam wuching today!
I kena eat dirt now…bloody hell
[...] Recently, Works Minister, Datuk Seri Samy Vellu announced that toll prices for 5 major highways in Malaysia will go up in 2007 as the government cannot afford toll subsidies anymore. The toll rates will increase in between RM0.30 to RM1. [...]
Actually, puchongites, there is a way round the toll. Through the Jalan Puchong Lama/Old Klang Road. It is a longer journey (possible jam) but you work out the cost (time, petrol, toll) see if it is cheaper to your destination.Usually I will take the route to MidValley,Bangsar,KL.
BTW,Notice that 10 years ago, freshgrads were paid the same. With InflationRate of 3.5%p.a.(BLR),that means our current RM2K start is equi to RM1300 in 1996(rough estm.). With stagnant pay, we will never SURVIVE.
Also, punchongites should also gets frustrated with the morning JAM. It is like we are queueing to pay the useless highway that is supposed to get us through quicker. So much for NOT-ENOUGH-REVENUE for LITRAK.
This is also an issue of efficiency/productivity, on average I had to use 1.5hrs commute to work.In other words, I only have 22.5hrs in aday.;)Imagine extra 1.5hrs in the bed…
Foreseeing this situation, I have been forced to explore opportunities elsewhere.
You can take it that the government is forcing talents out.
lousy goverment, gonna register next election and no BN
