This type of toilet is normal for European countries, I've been to Finland and it has these type of automatic toilet too, and it cost around 1euro about RM5 for us... I support the gov for this. It is good for the image of Malaysia for the tourist. Seems Bukit Bintang area are fulled with tourists, so tourists could see the hygienic part of Malaysian and not the 20 cents toilet that i also as a Malaysian ashamed of, with the low standard hygienic maintenance and all the drawings on the walls by the bad boys.

[...] Accompanying the check is a statement which doesn’t help in explaining what’s the check for. But who cares… I assume it’s for excess tax payments I made for the past so many years; no wonder Malaysia has so much public money to build great mega structures such as the close to half-a-million automatic toilet in Bukit Bintang and the Eye on Malaysia ferris wheel. Talking about the automatic toilets, are they still in good condition in Bukit Bintang? I haven’t tried them yet and would definitely want to do that personally some day! [...]

I think to the Government, a record is a record. Whether it's the tallest building in the world, the biggest roti canai or the fattest mooncake, don't matter. It's still a record. Something to be proud of. Malaysia Boleh (*bleerrrgh*). Yay.

Clean, hygienic public toilets are a given. No need to proclaim it. Besides, auto toilets have been around for yonks overseas. Tourists would be going, "Hey, look hunny, Malaysia finally has auto-toilets. My grandparents used to love them when they were kids!"

I think it's all part of the Visit Malaysia 2007 drive. And they are building a gigantic ferris wheel (like the London Eye). Aiyo.

Actually it doesn't cost RM1. A couple of friends of mine tested the toilet. A maximum of 15 minutes, yes, but they only put in 20-30sen. And that lasted more than 5 minutes. They manually exited the toilet after.

Strange how it works. Perhaps it would be better if there was some indication of the rates, and also timespan.
