Malaysia Open 2007
Jan 22nd, 2007 by Neo
The annual Malaysia Open Badminton Championship (2007) has just concluded yesterday evening at the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Statium, Cheras. As a badminton lover myself, of course I would not miss out witnessing some of the world’s best players competing. You see, I have prepared the entrance tickets so early also. It’s RM32 a piece.
Yesterday, I arrived at the venue not too late, about 1 hour before the games were scheduled to start. But the parking as expected were difficult to find as it’s full and people had already started double park which yours truly followed, no choice. Once inside the stadium, the environment was pretty good! Before long, badminton fanatics and supporters started to pour in…

That’s the stadium 1 hour before the start of the first game which was the mixed-doubles. About 60% occupancy with most of the stragetic seats being “reserved” either by asses or plastic bags/or other stuff.

This is the number 1 badminton supporter in Malaysia. He is definitely not a stranger to you and me who watch every single badminton matches played in Malaysia… haha. He even did some ritual thingy on the court so that Malaysian players will have better chances at the killing smashes!
But too bad Wong Mew Choo still loss to Zhu Lin of China because he did the ritual on the wrong court! He should do it on the center court!

That’s the first match between England’s Nathan Robertson/Gail Emms and China’s Zheng Bo/Gao Lin. Gail Emms looked so cute in person!

Gao Ling is certainly very popular among the Malaysian badminton lovers. Since there weren’t any Malaysian players then, so majority of the Malaysian supports were cheering for the pair from China. The Chinese pair eventually conquered their opponents 21-12 14-21 21-15.

As the games progressed, more and more badminton lovers poured in. I guess the organiser was selling more tickets than the number of seats, otherwise why would there be so many people standing seatless?!

That’s Bao Chun Lai in the men’s singles match with Peter Gade.

Peter Gade did a low serve to Bao. The better player yesterday was Peter Gade and he won the match gracefully. After the game he was so excited that he threw his badminton racket into the crowd… the dude who managed to catch it was in heaven I guess, too happy! A multiple hundred ringgit badminton racket from one of the best player from the world! Wow… amazing!

Wong Chun Han did the interviews! OMG, why him? He didn’t seem to be able to conduct the interview very well and even needed a translator to help him!

In between matches, crowds were rewarded with free gifts. They were fired into the crowd with this big cannon carried by two cute babes. The lukiest and the fastest spectator got the catch. I got a quick peak of the catch by one of the spectator on the same row as mine, it turned out to be a simple t-shirt, nothing like those BAM players wear of course. I guess it’s a RM10 t-shirt
Of course an event like this is best watched with some true color videos, or else you will say I have not done my part. Make sure your speaker is in full volume!
Okay, looks like this post is getting heavy, thus I better save some pictures for another time. Stay tuned for the Malaysian players pics!
