Sibu Delicacies - Kampuan noodles
Feb 22nd, 2007 by Neo
I guess it’s now time for me to show you what delicacies I had at Sibu, which I enjoyed so much after not being able to have them for so many years! If you asked any Sibu people what’s the most special food in Sibu, they will certainly tell you it’s the kampuan noodles!
I had kampuan at a few coffee shops these few days, and I found this one at a shop lot opposite of Wisma Sanyan to be among the best. I will talk more about Wisma Sanyan which is currently the tallest and most famous building in Sarawak in a future post. But right now let’s have some kampuan first…

That’s the stall cook or sifu you see above. I asked for permission to take this picture of course and he welcomed me to take as many pictures as I want! Haha, how hospitable are Sibu people!
I am sure you will agree with me he looks very professional. Believe me, so does his noodles!

These are all the ingredients needed to prepare for a plate of delicious noodles. There are all sorts of sauces which I have no idea what you call them.

That’s not kampuan noodle of course… that’s in fact a plate of wantan mee which is very ordinary in West Malaysia. But since it’s not that common in Sarawak, I decided to order one and try… big mistake, it tasted horrible. But give them a few more weeks, I am sure they will improve.

Now, that’s a plate of kampuan which you have been waiting for! It may seems a little plain, but it tastes heavenly! So nice that I had two plates all to myself in a row! You can’t judge how good is a plate of noodle until you taste it yourself. Haha…

The kampuan noodle is very affordable also, costs only RM2 per plate. Give it a try if you happen to drop by Sarawak! Remember, it’s opposite of Wisman Sanyan which is the tallest building in Sarawak, so you can’t miss it.
