Wedding dinner in Ipoh and Ipoh chicken rice
Sep 26th, 2007 by Neo
I have been lazy these couple of days and has seen a dramatic decrease in my blog’s traffic. With that the revenue also drops… how am I going to afford my lunch today? Haha… Blame this on the mid autumn festival (Mooncake festival) which ended yesterday. So, from now onwards, I shall blog more often okay.
Let’s come back to today’s topic. Some of you may still remember that I went to Ipoh last week to attend a friend’s wedding dinner. Now, I shall tell you more about this dinner and bring you to have a nice plate of Ipoh Chicken Rice. Yeah, immediately after the wedding dinner, hope your appetite is extremely good today!

The wedding dinner was held at the restaurant in Hotel Excelsior. Looks grand from the outside, but just ordinary in the inside.
I had no problem locating this place as my friend who went to me is very familiar with Ipoh. She knows every corner in Ipoh, so she claims!
Parked at the road side parking lot in front of the hotel. Paid RM2 to the Indian fella who asked for money… Had to pay him as I was scared he will scratch my car.
Ipoh people, do you usually pay to those people? Will they do anything to you or your car if you don’t pay them?

Everything was pretty standard as with all wedding dinners. This restaurant’s worth a mention though, the decoration is pretty basic, nothing like what you would expect to see in a restaurant in a hotel in KL. The floor tiles is classic! You can’t find them anywhere else, those tiles extinct already!

Before we dive into the awesome food, let’s share the new couple’s joy by having a group photo with them. They looked marvelous and all smiles! The bridegroom is handsome and the bride is beautiful!

My favorite dish of the night was the prawns. It tasted fantastic although it was a tough job to part the shell from its flesh. Yummy…
I didn’t take a lot of photos this time as all the other guests on my table were quite serious. We chatted quite a bit and obviously they were friendly people but I didn’t want to look funny taking pictures of every dish we ate! The dinner went very well and soon after we called it a day… Oh wait, we have part two coming up, so announced one of my friends.
As if my friend was not content with the dinner, she suggested that since we were in Ipoh, we might as well pay Lou Wong a visit. Who is Lou Wong? He’s the owner of the restaurant which serves the best chicken rice until his name is synonymous with Ipoh Chicken Rice!

There are actually two very famous Ipoh chicken rice restaurants in Ipoh, namely Onn Kee (which has two branches facing each other, one that opens in the day, and the other that caters to the night prowlers), and Lou Wong (which is believed to be better than the other, but only opens after dark till late). These two restaurants are also very well know for their juicy bean sprouts and sar hor fun (flat rice vermicelli). These are commonly credited for contributing to Ipoh girls’ exceptionally smooth skin! Ipoh is also well know for “producing” beautiful young girls, you know or not? Haha…
True to its fame, Restoran Lou Wong Tauge Ayam Luetiau amassed a lot of patrons. Rows and rows of tables and chairs were even placed on the road, and most of them were occupied. To add to the happening night was a night market just beside the restaurant. This place is hot!
Nevertheless, we didn’t get to try the chicken nor the bean sprouts because we were too full. Too much of prawns and shark fin soup just 10 minutes ago! Haha… of course the shark fin soup comes first even if you compare with Ipoh’s fat chicken! ![]()

But sometimes i rather park far away or don’t bother them lor. Just pretend their “nothing” at all!

I have not tried both. hehe
Anston,
They didn’t scratch your car?
Babyfiona,
You didn’t go to the wedding dinner I went hor?
Che-Cheh,
Go try both! They are good!
next time pay them RM10 they’ll look after your car like datuk’s car!
I don’t pay them. Try to hit on Onn Kee’s beansprout chicken, its nicer and i personally think Low Wong is overrated. =)
