Pesta Tanglung UKM, Bangi
Oct 1st, 2007 by Neo
They actually call it Pesta Tanglung UKM, and this was the 28th edition. Not sure if the UKM folks had this Tanglung fiesta every year for the last 28 years, but if you want to travel back in time to the 26th edition, you can do so with a click of your mouse: Pesta Tanglung UKM! This was actually held in the university’s main hall which last time I thought was very big because I had never seen anything that size in my hometown. You don’t have such big school halls in SMB Methodist, SMB Secret Heart nor SMB Tiong Hin, do you?

Although the hall was not too big to today’s standard, but the seats was not fully occupied. Since we were there early this time, we had the opportunity to choose the best seats we want, excluding the VIP or important guests seats in front of course. We tried the front rows at the left side before deciding to move to the nearer seats at the right side of the hall. That’s the benefit of going early. Seats on the right were better because they were closer to the stage.
After all the formal opening speeches by the guests which include the Deputy Chancellor, and the Pesta Tanglung committee Chairman, the event was officiated by the honorable Higher Education Deputy Minister, Datuk Ong Tee Keat.
Soon, the audience were treated with some brilliant stage dramas. The first one was this extra-ordinary opening which caught everybody by surprise…

It was about the virtue of filial piety (孝 in Chinese) for one’s parents and ancestors; and also about brotherhood among the family members. This was one hell of a good stage drama which got everybody hooked!
Soon, a few more stories followed. I shall let the pictures do the talking.

Patriotism and national service (khidmat negara). These kids were all up for the national service challenge!

Magnificent troops at a national service (PLKN) camp.

Office attire dance. All the girls look great!
Surprisingly, this time everything started so quickly and ended quickly also. I estimate it took them barely 2 hours or slightly more to finish all the stories. I thought the show should last at least 3 or 4 hours for my ticket money worth… Anyway, they use the remaining time they had for some chamwhoring session. All those who took part or contributed in a way or another were obviously overjoyed with the success of the show.

Say, “hi” to UKM students… aren’t they young and cheerful?!

aiks! who died in the first act?
nice
Wuching,
The lead actors’ mother died.
Clement,
Could be nicer if the actresses were hotter!
I thought is a tang lung pesta, but it looks like a malaysian show, office show, all not related with chinese culture…. Pity to Chinese who want to hold activities in local university, everything must be Malaysian style. You may say I am racism, but that’s a fact in this racism country!
Yeah… the acts were not really related to Mid Autumn festival. Although the set was on a Mid Autumn day.
But the acts were entertaining and promotes good values.

The Pesta Tanglung was held every year in UKM. I took part in the event too when I was in first year (most of the participants are first year undergrads), and that was way backkkkkkkkk in 1993 (14 years back)
Chen,
Glad to see you drop by here again. You graduated from UKM?
