See how I fix my kitchen underground leaking
Oct 28th, 2007 by Neo
Just days after I had my leaking kitchen roof fixed with a whooping cost of RM450, I had to call up a plumber to put an end on my hiking water bill. In fact since a couple of months ago, I had suspected that there must be something wrong with the pipes in my house somewhere because although none of the faucet, fixture, and appliance that uses water were on, the water meter gauge was running like a rocket! It really proved me correct as the water bill last month was more than what I could possibly use in a whole year! RM80++! Not that I want to scare you, water leaking could make me go bankrupt.
The plumber came last week and after some inspection, he broke the bad news to me. There was a leaking either underground or in the wall where there’s a pipe that carries water to the washing machine and the wash basin on the other side of the kitchen.

OMG, this was the worst news! To fix it we need to knock and remove the tiles… such a hassle and a hugh project! Die lar this time…
Anyway, how do you like this part of my kitchen which was extended as the wet kitchen? I basically have the washing machine, a laundry basket and also a waste bin which was shifted to make the picture nicer.
I didn’t have much choice. Either I lose money monthly at a rate of RM80 - RM100, or I fix it once and forever! I decided to go for the later.

We were lucky because we managed to find the buried pipe on our first wall tile. With that we continued to knock a couple more tiles… and that went on until the fifth tile when the culprit was finally located. The plumber had a high powered device to help with the knocking.

There was a very tiny crack in the pipe. As tiny as the tip of a hairpin, but the water pressure is high so the water just keep coming out and that explains the rapid running on the water meter gauge.
They wasted no time at all in replacing the faulty portion of the pipe with a new one. Cut the faulty portion, put a new one in, and secure it with water proof gum.

Look what they… or rather the leaking did to my kitchen. So dirty and untidy. However, all thanks to the plumber and his man for they had it fixed professionally. The water meter gauge is not running wildly now so this month’s water bill should go down to RM10 or less. The plumber, his name is Ah Fook by the way, advised me to leave the floor as it is for a week to monitor the pipe condition before they patch and cover it up. It’s OK with me as I need a couple of days to get new tiles too.
So… that’s the story for today. Please stay tuned for the finale where I will show you how we patched it up and restored its glory! ![]()

Such a big project ya..
Hey by the way, your PR is 6 ist ?
Yes, big project. The plumber’s pay is not cheap, and need to get new tiles too. Not to mention the place needs a lot of work to clean up afterwards.
My PR was 6, but now it dropped to 4. Sad.
What’s with the PR thingy, read in a couple of blogs. Anyway, my blog is just for fun. Hehe… Oh, too bad for the money you have to dig out for the unexpected household maintainence. Opt for more roti canai for 2 months
aiyo! u poor man! ur problem worse than mine!
PR is an important measurement of the popularity and quality of a website or blog.
Roti canai is not cheap nowadays. But can’t help it, need to spend to fix the problem.
Wuching, now only you know! You are such a lucky man! Happy for you.
Look like an old house you are living in. Fix here fix there every now and then.
So sorry to hear that. How much is the repair?
[...] I have earlier shown you how those people dug a hugh hole in my kitchen in order to locate and fix a leaking underground pipe. The hole was left to cool down for a week to make sure there is no further leaking uncovered elsewhere… possibly. Nothing too unexpected happened so I had them come over to re-tile the floor last Saturday. [...]
