New AdSense optimized WordPress theme
Nov 15th, 2007 by Neo
I have finally decided to upgrade my old WordPress 1.5 to the latest and highly sophisticated WordPress 2.3.1. Yes, you read me right, Hot Screensaver has been running on the old but reliable WordPress 1.5 for the last two years! I understand if it’s not broken do not fix it… that’s exactly the case for Hot Screensaver, but I guess I don’t want to take the risk of waiting to get hacked, then only upgrade it. There are just too many un-patched holes in the old WordPress 1.5.
It’s like a bomb waiting to explode.

In conjunction with the new WordPress system, I thought I might as well change the theme. It was such a hugh task and for the whole afternoon I glued my ass to my chair fixing the new WordPress theme. There were so much to be done… from changing the header picture to inserting the AdSense codes… and not forgetting to make sure all the plugins were upgraded to the latest versions. It was like working in the hell because of all the broken codes and plugins… furthermore the aircon decided to go for a break at this very afternoon (more about this in another post). Anyway, by evening, all was done and the new blog was up and running proudly!

However, the hell doesn’t end here. Somehow, the AdSense click trough rate takes a plunge and so does the impressions. I hell know why the impressions are low today, but what I know is my girlfriends are not really happy about the change.
So, there… I have just spent my lovely evening trying to make the theme as AdSense optimized as possible. After 3 solid hours of work, I guess it’s pretty solid now. Looks good to the eyes and looks like a good AdSense optimized WordPress theme.
I wonder can I put my name in the footer and claim it’s designed by Neo of Hot-screensaver.com?

I agree with you on “if it’s not broken don’t fix it..”
Congrats on the move to 2.3.1, i’m sure your coming to grips with many new features in the wp-admin..hehe
I don’t see any ads so its difficult telling if its adsense optimized or not. But reading on ur blog is still easy.

Is it easy to upgrade to WP2.3.1 ?
Mine is WP2.1.. I am thinking to upgrade BUT I do not know how to restore it back if it fails.. I scared of my posts all gone..
Please advise. Thanks..
Clement,
You have the best WordPress theme.
Moses Francis,
I am amazed at the new features WordPress 2.3.1 offers. Definitely a good upgrade.
Danny Foo,
Glad my blog displays well on your iPhone.
Keeyit,
Since yours is pretty new, I think if all the functions and features are working fine, then you do not need to upgrade. Anyway, if you do want to upgrade, just make a full backup of your files and the database. Then on top of that, make separate backups of the WordPress files and the database alone. Then do your upgrade.
how i wish i know how to upgrade! my adsense earning very terrible. managed to get the US$100 only after 3 years. can you believe that?
Lucia,
Long time no see! US$100 only after 3 years is a little bit way too long… perhaps you can change the theme or reposition the ads. No need to upgrade the WordPress if it’s not lower than version 2.0.
Wow congrats on the new theme and upgrade.
You’re good in CSS?
Nice looking new theme! I am thinking of upgrading my wordpress too, but as you say, it is so troublesome!
But I really recommended you to upgrade if new versionn is out because, my website was hacked by someone from Saudi Arabia. It is all because, I didn’t upgrade the version. But nice theme. Looks clean and nice.
My compliments on your new wordpress theme. And that is a great Tiger pic too. I like how your comments are circled, makes it easy to spot the author when there are many comments.
Sui, u make this theme more Neo like! Two thumbs up!
