Wong Mew Choo and my badminton buddy
Nov 27th, 2007 by Neo
Wong Mew Choo has made history in the recent Super Series China Open 2007 in Guangzhou when she won her first ever Open title. She pulled off amazing feats to beat former China player Pi Hong Yan, and four other Chinese players Zhu Lin, Zhang Ning and Xie Xing Fang. It was totally breathtaking to watch Wong Mew Choo beating the world number one and two-time world champion Xie Xingfang of China 21-16, 8-21, 21-17.

A big congratulation to her for being the first Malaysian women player to win the China Open. She has done Malaysia and herself proud. This proves perhaps it’s now time to pay more emphasis on our National women’s players. Look how disappointing it was for Lee Chong Wei to lose to Bao Chun Lai like that…
Okay, enough of Wong Mew Choo and the sad Men’s squad outing at China Open. Let’s come back to Malaysia and let me show you this little hideout place of mine where I play badminton, once in a while. This is the hall of a primary school in Puchong, although it may look a little run down, but trust me it’s a very affordable place to play badminton as compared to the more commercial places such as the largest Badminton center (MBA) in Bandar Puteri.

This particular school has 6 courts available for public booking. However, I am not too sure about the rate although I am absolutely positive it’s so much cheaper compared to MBA’s rates. Michael (MBA’s boss), if you are reading this, please consider lowering the rate… your rate of RM25 an hour is too expensive.
Of course I doubt you will do it lar… it’s so damn packed… I mean fully booked from Mondays through Fridays. We will thank you also if you didn’t raise the rates soon.

That’s my badminton buddy you see above. He has such strong and powerful smash I think it’s a waste he’s not in the national badminton team. Shuttle cocks from his racket are like super charged rockets… before you could blink your eye, they have already landed on your side of the court. No chance at all. Hahaha… look at his broken racket.
Padan muka for smashing so hard! Wahaha… I couldn’t stop laughing… ![]()

think chong wei was unlucky becos the line calls were really bias…
What happened to the racquet?
Hope she will be able to keep the fighting spirit with her for the next tournament.
zewt,
If LCW thought the line calls were biased, he should just walk out of the court in protest, just like Taufik Hidayat did. Don’t lost to BCL like that.
Raymond Chan,
He hit so hard that it broke.
Jason,
Hope she can at least go into semi-finals in the Hong Kong open next week. Target for final?
I’m proud of her. Hope it’s not just a once in a lifetime thingy.
Che-Cheh,
I am it won’t be a once in a lifetime thingy. She has beaten XXF before… and maybe Zhang Ning too (I am not sure about this though). So, there is no question that her skill, stamina and game play have improved to the highest level.
I am sure she will bring more joy in the Hong Kong Open next week.
I watched the final match on Sunday. Mew Choo played very well. Not a powerful smasher but she just kept the rallies going. A consistent fighter. Hope she can win the women’s singles title for Malaysia in Olympics and end China’s domination in that event.
Wong Mew Choo, we are proud of you.
