How to fix a leaking roof
Dec 7th, 2007 by Neo
Come see how I spent my lovely Sunday!
I hope you still remember that I have a leaking roof at the kitchen area and some dumb ass plumbers were called to fix it for me at a blood sucker price of RM450! Imagine how many J.Co Donuts I can buy with that sort of money?! Anyway, I think it’s still leaking slightly whenever it rains heavily.
Now that I have learned their trick I really want to take the problem into my own hands. DIY time! Bought the following flexible waterproof sealer and a small brush from a local store, at a total price of RM30.

OMG, only now I know how much those blood sucker plumbers have earned on the job… the materials are so cheap! I have never believed them when they said the waterproof sealer costs more than RM100, but I have never suspected that it costs RM30 only! Anyway, we can’t do much also because no matter which plumber you call, their price is always RM300 to RM500 as long as they need to climb up the roof. Right or not?

It’s very easy to use this waterproof sealer to seal off small cracks or leaks on walls, ceilings and of course roofs. Just apply it like painting with a brush or small roller. However, for best result, do remember to make sure surfaces to be applied is clean, sound, dry and free from dust. All these instructions are detailed on the container.
It took me nearly three hours to complete the work… from preparation to completion. Of course I didn’t redo the whole thing that was done by the plumbers. I had only reinforced the corners where very tiny cracks were noticed upon close inspection… and since I was up the roof, I just reapplied part of the roof for maximum protection over a longer period of time, hopefully.

Above is exactly the problematic part of the roof. The whiter area is where I had reapplied the waterproof sealer. After a week or so the color should turn to gray.
So, that’s how I spent my lovely Sunday. Three hours of tiring work but managed to save the cost of a plumber for some J.Co Donuts. Hope the leaking problem is really fixed and done now! ![]()
