Madam Kwan’s Pavilion KL
Dec 26th, 2007 by Neo
I am not sure if the Lower Ground floor of Pavilion KL is always that packed with diners or it was just my bad luck day. When I was there a couple of days ago, it was so crowded that I could not find a single free table in the whole Food Republic food court. Since when do you get this sort of full house in a food court? Not in One Utama, not in Mid Valley I am sure.

I wanted to save money… but no choice have to go to a more expensive restaurant. We tried Madam Kwan’s – Turly Malaysian cuisine. I came across Madam Kwan’s so many times in other shopping malls, but never got a chance to try their authentic Malaysian cuisine. This is my first time, hopefully my choice is right!

Good choice, plenty of empty seats and tables on a slightly raised floor. Nobody chase after you, take your time to choose the best table you want. Nice and comfortable environment. My seat looked right over to Food Republic which got you the picture above.

Water were served while waiting for our orders. Not bad, right? Just nice for me for I was totally exhausted trying to hunt an empty table earlier in the Food Republic. I was a failed hunter.
Food were served fairly quickly.

We had fried kuey teow.

And of course that’s Spaghetti Napolitan with tomato sauce. The above two dishes were nothing to shout about. Very ordinary and simple especially the fried kuey teow… perhaps that’s why they claim they serve truly Malaysian cuisine. Tasted just like Malaysian cuisine. Not much difference with what you have in a coffee shop at Jalan Pudu, except the price.

Not so much a right choice after all. Next time better stick with Food Republic. Otherwise go to iDragon next door, heard their ’siu long bao’ is yummilicious.

This restaurant is situated at quite a strategic place in Pavilion and I must say it’s a very good spot. I never seem to be able to miss it. But then I’ve never tried their food
Yes i-Dragon’s Xiu Long Bao is good!
I hear good things about Madam Kwan albeit being a wee bit ex..
will have to try her out.. when i come home to Malaysia..
Initially I had thought Mdm Kwan now owns Pavilion. lol
I heard Nasi Lemak at Mdm Kwan’s their signature dish. But never been there even though, like you, passed by there thousands of times already because, like you said, the price. LOL!
I hate it too when I go out with Deb for dinner and we have to search high and low, in several different restaurants, for a simple seat and meal. Especially on Friday and Saturday nights!
So we usually end up going to the ugliest, traditional ‘cha chaan teng’s’ instead cause nobody eats there now. Better for us, nice quiet meal!
Hi there,
Their outlet in KLCC is always packed. Thank God there’s another one here.
Though Nasi Lemak is their signature dish, but I always ordered the ‘Nasi Bojari’ – sambal prawn and giant fried chicken with colorful rice on a piece of banana leaf.
Btw, have you tried Yo-Sushi in Pavilion?
narrowband,
This is my first time at Madam Kwan’s. I guess I most probably will not be eating there again for a long time.
Mama BoK,
Take your time. Madam Kwan’s will be glad to welcome you!
KY,
Haha… I purposely didn’t put “at” or not even a comma, so as not to dilute the keywords.
Clare,
Nasi lemak? There is a nasi lemak stall at a food court in my Taman, very fragrant and delicious. Generous amount of rice. Add one rendang ayam drumstick, and huge amount of vegetable, plus all the necessities of a plate of nasi lemak, all in only RM4.50.
But at Madam Kwan’s, RM4.50 is just enough for the government tax. Hahaha!
Furkids in Hong Kong,
I didn’t have a chance to try those traditional ‘cha chaan teng’s’ when I visited Hong Kong last time. Too bad. See when I have the chance to sneak there again.
Matchfingers,
Nope, I haven’t tried Yo-Sushi there. This was actually my first time in Pavilion, but I think I will go there again soon because the place is big. Need a few visits to explore all.
Never been there. I was working nearby that area last year. It was still under construction. but I heard pavilion is quite an expensive place.
but then still very good for sight-seeing I guess.
Yes Clare is right. Nasi Lemak is their signature dish. Tried once enough liao. Not worth the $
For madam kwan, I can say is a high class places for mamak food.. hehe.. You can eat those local delights at our mamak stalls like chow kuey tiao, nasi lemak, nasi kerabu, cendols…
I had meals there before.. yeah trying new things always ma.. normally i will order nasi lemak..
And Madam Kwan at KLCC, will put the strawberry into the plain water for you.. is that the same in Pavillion ?
Che-Cheh,
Next time you treat me, okay?
Keeyit,
Oh yeah. You reminded me. I think in Pavilion they put a slice of lemon into the water jug. Not strawberry.
hi ya…
ok what i got to say is food there is not bad and always busy .. and why people like to go there because is the brand …
like those people buy LV bag,.is the same thing people want is the brand not the food or the service …
he he
about the water so far is the best dont have any people use s’berry or some thing else most people use lemon .. some time there use orange and lemon.. but still the best is s’berry…
I love madam kwan food but a little bit wondering whether are you all certified with Halal certificate by JAKIM? Pls comment asap. thank you.
I love too… madam kwans’..mmmppp. especially i like nasi bojari. actually quite a big portion. i really can’t finished la… but really can full my stomach er. dessert of course is cendol. can’t compare with other cafe shop, other is too little is too “kiam siap”, but then mdm kwans’ really have big portion and price are not so expensive also. i like it!!
