Anugerah Juara Lagu, One Utama
Jan 11th, 2008 by Neo
I was in One Utama and was curious to find out the source of some very loud music and singing. Followed the loud music beats to the center court and surprised to see the audition for Anugerah Juara Lagu (Malay for “Champion of Songs Awards”). Stopped for a short while and joined the crowd to take some photos.

For those uninformed, Anugerah Juara Lagu is a popular annual music competition in Malaysia which features the best musical and lyrical compositions of each year it is held. Nominees are derived from a list of mostly-Malay songs which have garnered the most public votes in Muzik-Muzik throughout the year, and then progress into the semifinals, from which twelve songs will be nominated by a panel of judges to enter the Juara Lagu.

Anugerah Juara Lagu pays tribute to local composers and songwriters, rather than the performing artistes. Last year’s winning song was Terlalu Istimewa (Too Special), performed by Adibah Noor. The year before the award went to the song Gemilang (Glory) which was performed by Jaclyn Victor.
Nothing much to say actually because I don’t really follow the development. Let’s end today’s post with a beautiful song.
She’s quite energetic and cheerful. I think the crowd loved her!

I don’t really follow up with the Malay song industry but one thing for sure, there are a lot of good songs and artists in recent years.
hcfoo,
Neither do I with the Malay song industry. But I do like Siti Nurhaliza, she’s gorgeous but hasn’t seen her for a long time especially after her marriage.
I think it’s a great thing that more appreciation is given too the composers and songwriters. Good stuff!
Btw, if I recall correctly, we’ve known each other for like 2 years now? Always wanted to know how all my blog friends sounded like so I put up a voicemail over at my blog (with my nerdy greeting) and would love for you to say hello!
Tks!
i agreed with hcfoo… for many years already i been ignoring malay songs but these few years two or three, thier songs is better. new revolution from new artist into the industry, YEAH!
