Improve Streamyx broadband connection speed
Jan 12th, 2008 by Neo
Streamyx connection speed has never been good in my area. I have never bothered to check the speed using any speed test tool so I have no idea what’s the download and upload speed is like, but daily usage tells me it’s slow. Watching a 2 minutes YouTube video could take up to 5 minutes or more simply because it requires much longer time to download.
Called up Streamyx to complain. Surprisingly, it took them very fast to respond this time. The next day they sent a technician over to look at the problem and after some checking, checking and further checking, the culprit was detected. The existing telephone wire was very old and they needed to replace it.

Look at the picture above. This friendly technician checked the wiring and found that we needed to replace it. He then needed to take out the old wire and re-run a brand new wire to the socket in the office. Oh yeah, this was at my office, not my house.

That’s the tool the Streamyx technician used to do the checking. Looks pretty simple and easy.

The telephone wire runs through above the ceiling. The technician… or I guess more appropriately called the “Telekom Contractor” had to use a ladder to reach up.

The whole rewiring took more than an one hour, and as expected it wasn’t free. But the cost we paid was well worth it because of how hard he had worked, basically he needed to climb up and down the ladder many times. I was damn glad that the Streamyx connection become more stable and… slightly faster after the rewiring. At least there is no more disconnection after that, for the time being.
So, folks. Now, you know what you need to do if your Streamyx connection is not stable and experience constant disconnection. Call up Streamyx support and ask them to send you a technician/contractor to check the wiring. Chances are the wiring needs replacement badly enough!

Not 1MB, because I subscribe to 512kbps only.

Oh yes, the quality of the telephone wire plays an important role in connection speed and its stability.

I had given up hope with Streamyx already, am waiting for another broadband service soon to come.
Good work of Streamyx. If they don’t want to keep it up their work probably competitor will steal all of their customer already
clement,
Definitely not up to 512mbps. I never check what’s the speed, but it’s still OK for normal surfing although viewing YouTube vidoes is sluggish.
benjamin and yus,
Worth to change the wire. The Internet connection become much more stable, right?
jam,
Which broadband provider is so good?
