AirAsia baggage handling fee and flight meal
Apr 19th, 2008 by Neo
Some time ago I had to fly back to my hometown, dear Sibu because of some family matters. No question, it was AirAsia and not MAS due to the air ticket price difference,… I had the feeling that the price difference gap is closing up these days especially with the various “unexpected” charges, such as the recently introduced baggage handling fee.

Read what the big banner says. For bookings made from 21 April onwards, a fee will apply for every checked baggage. Luckily it wasn’t implemented yet when I flew my Sibu flights, otherwise I would have to pay some additional RM10 because I checked in two baggages. RM5 per baggage.
Please note that if your baggage exceeds 15KG, you will still need to pay additional for what they called “excess baggage fees”. AirAsia is very smart in charging you less for air ticket, but requires you to pay more to fly later… right?

Let’s see what I had on the flight. Although a pack of nasi lemak costs a few times more pricey than that which you can buy at any nasi lemak store, I had no choice but to order one as I couldn’t stand the food’s nice aroma! It was so tempting that I almost had my saliva dripping! Damn, they must have added in some stuff to make the food smell so nice! To tempt you to buy lar… haha, I got trapped!
They very ordinary looking and … well, tasted as ordinary pack of nasi lemak costed RM12 something. It looked much nicer in their leaflet though.

My girls who were not very hungry ordered a pack of milo and a piece of bread. They looked not much different from what you can get at any convenient store, but no doubt they costed much more when you buy them 5000 feet above sea level in the sky!
Haha… did you feel any difference when you had food so high in the sky?

I’m at Sibu airport, and just pass through that Air Asia banner. Haha.. so the next time make sure u use 1 luggage bag which is 15kg! Chun Chun, and make the reservation online, so that u gotta pay RM3 only.
goolooloo,
Haha… you are very smart indeed. 15KG one bag, is pretty damn heavy, how to carry huh?
No different la… Sama jak, everytime I fly I sure sleep asap to get away from the aroma
I seldom check my baggage though
hor! they getting smart now!
Wong,
For me, it’s really difficult to sleep through a flight… especially with those beautiful flight stewardesses around. Haha… but lately the “quality” seems to have dropped.
Wuching,
Tony Fernandes is pretty smart, no?
eat full ful before u board the plane lor.. i nvr bought any of their food before. coz so lousy n yet so pricey…!
or try to smuggle something in ur bag to eat in the plane
RM5 baggage handling fee (or RM3 if checked-in online) is fine, but I find the “no outside food” policy irritating. I’ve written a post on this topic - here.
hmm.. so far i still carry my luggage with me to board the flight la..
Cbenc12,
Next time I try to smuggle some durian on board.
Khengsiong,
Next time you bring your own maggie mee and cook them in then plane.
Keeyit,
That’s if you travel near, so you have one or two luggages only. What if you travel far?
if i have a lot luggage, i will go for MAS
because in the end, it is still cheaper and more comfortable. and MAS stewardess lebih cun! Hahaha!
I had booked my tickets to kl last year and thus not being affected by this excess baggage thingy.
Bongkersz,
AirAsia sometimes offers RM5 air tickets… MAS got meh? FireFly perhaps, but so far I have not tried them yet, not sure if anyone does.
Jam,
That’s good. Always book your tickets early to avoid price increase.
what to do.. airasia’s marketing strategy so smart
