Kuching International Airport
Apr 26th, 2008 by Neo
Last time, I showed you the infamous LCCT in Kuala Lumpur. It won’t do justice to the largest airport in Sarawak, the Kuching International Airport (KIA) if I didn’t bring you on a tour here. Kuching International Airport is situated 11 km south of the city of Kuching.

The newly renovated terminal complex is capable of handling 5 million passengers per year and it is the third largest airport in Malaysia after Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Kota Kinabalu International Airport.

Kuching International Airport has grown rapidly with an increasing number of passengers and aircraft movement. It is the secondary hub for both Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia and has been growing rapidly to tackle the demand of the travelers in the East Malaysia region.

I felt the whole terminal was extremely big and empty… most likely due to very few travelers at this time of the year. There were very few shops around, especially outside of the arrival and departure halls. In the departure hall however, there were some shops such as Marry Brown, one convenience store and one or two other restaurants. But, outside I didn’t see any eatery except this restaurant which serves mainly noodles and some local dishes.

The restaurant was called Only Mee.
I was a little hungry after a long flight and so I decided to give them a try. Nope, they do serve rice and other delicacies as well. I ordered sweet and sour chicken rice, and to my surprise it was served in this weird looking wooden bowl!

I believe this wooden thingy made a few heads turn! Haha… anyway, the sweet and sour chicken was pretty good. It came with a couple of side dishes as you can see in the picture above. If you visited Kuching next time, you could certainly give this dish a try if you were not trying the famous local delicacies such as the kolok mee.

eat alone?
Edi神,
Yes, eat alone. It was priced about RM10 I think. Not surprising as it’s the only eatery there (unless you are inside the departure hall) and it came with a special made wooden stand and bowl.
