Melaka Jonker Walk
Oct 11th, 2008 by Neo
So, after For A Famosa where do you think we went to? Naturally, we went to have a walk at the infamous Jonker Walk. I believe many of you who have been to Malacca have been here, or at least read or heard about it before. Thus, no further introduction is needed and let me just share some random photos with you.

This is the typical view early in the afternoon, a narrow street located in the heart of Malacca Chinatown. Not too overly busy with people in fact, but it looks good for a leisure walk.

Not too sure if this was there before, but just a random shot.

If you wanted to buy a pair of shoes, you could come here too. Actually, as you can see here, this is like a grocery store, everything got! Haha… from shoes and sandals to clothing, to decorative items, and souvenirs.

Tired? Why not stop for some authentic Malacca dessert? I heard the cendol is quite good here… but look at the long queue, so be prepared to wait in the line for at least 30 minutes.
Have you tried the dessert here? I chickened out when I saw the long queue, I rather proceed with my walk and find some other stores for dessert.

Not surprisingly, you can find a lot of handicrafts and artworks here. Shown here is something I have never seen before. Stone art… you can basically have anything you fancy printed on the stone/pebble including your name and your photo!

You can find a lot of goodies at rock bottom pricing at Jonker Walk. Most of these cost less than RM10 a piece, some even bundled at 3 pieces for RM10. They include things such as clips, hair pins, key chains, small boxes/containers, small toys, stationary, and many others.

Want to do a traditional Chinese stamp, maybe put your name in? Look for this brother in Jonker Walk.
Stay tuned for my next update where I will show you what we had for dinner! – What else la, of course authentic (or not?) Chicken rice ball.

This is the reason why I always fail to move out from Malacca since I was born :0)

Btw what dslr camera model u’re using? Sorry forget liao. Also can you try to show some macro shot with your camera?
fieldoflove.net,
Good, Malacca is a nice place to stay.
annant,
Yes, when I was leaving the peddlers were busy setting up their stalls.
Che-Cheh,
I am using Nikon D80. I haven’t take a lot of macro shots. But if you do like macro shots, you better get a specialized lens, such as the Tamron Sp90.
Looks to me much better than Petaling Street!
Jam,
I thought Petaling Street should be better with the cover, so at least it’s more cooling. And I think cars are not allowed or can’t drive through the Petaling Street, right?
I think I need to re-visit Petaling Street someday, it has been ages since I last went there!
go to Malacca din ask me to go..
Yes.. That place is really good to buy a souveniour..
ANd if you go to Dataran Pahlawan there’s also handicraft from other’s races..
Jonker Walk is my favourite place to visit in Melaka. It’s cleaner and has a nicer ambience than Petaling Street.
weee~~~ my hometown ^.^ nice le..
You chickened out when you saw the long queue? When I was there, I saw people lining up for chicken rice ball – under the searing sun!
wuching,
You went to Melbourne but didn’t ask me to join also.
Zool,
Dataran Pahlawan is the square in front of the Fort A Famosa?
Fongpc,
Wait til I revisit Petaling Street.
Cbenc12,
Oh, you didn’t come to treat me the local delicacies!?
Khengsiong,
Crazy people. haha.
Yes, the cendol is good. There was a satay around thsi Jonker Street that is very special. I tried it before and went back for more after only half a year!
It is relocated to across the stream.
Haha, so cute, so they are stones, at my first sight, i thought they were some kind of local rice cake! Because in my hometown China, we do have some sweet look like that
Stores in Jonker Walk are sucking everyone’s blood. I went back couple months ago for vacation and bought an “antique-like” antique for my discipline who helped me a a lot. But it’s way too expensive than I imagined(a month after I came back, the same item was found on EBay for 10usd). My friend consoled me for what I’ve bought is considere “real antique” comparing to that on EBay. lol!
But foods there are amazing good made by some of them native Malaysians (I mean baba/nyonya people). I gained a lot of weight in 3 weeks vacations.
I ve never been in Malacca. Maybe I should go there
