Light Box for Product Photography
Oct 22nd, 2008 by Neo
I am not sure if you have seen a light box before. But I stumbled light boxes among some other gadgets during the recent Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival.
Light boxes are especially useful for product photography. The object of product photography is to show details of an object clearly. Lighting an object well brings out the details and provides good highlights. One method for uniformly lighting small objects is to put the object in a light box.

That’s how a light box looks like. It basically consist of a container with several lightbulbs. The interior reflectors are usually white, although silver or gold also available basically to alter the temperature of the light.
Oh, just in case you want to meet the founder of Shashinki.com – Malaysia’s First Online Camera Shop, here you are.

There, KOH KHO KING in action, busy with the endless flow of customers to his stall at the Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival. Although he had some helpers, he still had to personally server many of them.
He was so busy until no time to make a proper pose for my camera.
Although he had no time to pose, but he still showed me some diffusers and remote flash triggers. Hehe… will talk about them in a later post.

I want~
I need one of those lightboxes for my Star Wars figurines, tauke Neo buy me one please?
I am sure light box is not high on your list. Your priority is lenglui photography.
DIY your own light box is cheaper. Plenty of tutorial online. Hehe
Is there any specific usage other than taking good pictures?
Hahaha. I make my own lightbox. LOL. Just take a decent box, cut a whole, and put an A4 paper, and get natural lighting – whitest and brightest. Otherwise forget the box n just put a white A4 paper behind the thing and dodge it on Photoshop will do.
tauke neo.. when can take me along to shoot lenglui???
These portable lightboxes have been very popular with my gadget-loving friends since they always sell their toys on ebay and posting nice pics has really helped them get better prices. 1 or 2 things sold and the light box has paid for itself.
I once had a DIY lightbox and exterior lighting too, but it was nowhere near as portable and convenient as theirs (especially with the included internal lights). Just fold up (or out) theirs and you’re good to go.
annant,
Yes, photography is an expensive hobby, but should be less expensive than the sports car hobby! haha…
