Muar Otak-otak
Nov 18th, 2008 by Neo
Check out these Otak-otak! This Muar delicacy needs no further introduction, though if you are not from Malaysia, you may not know what it is. Well, otak-otak is simply a type of fish cake (usually mackerel) which is commonly found in food stalls in this country, and it’s very famous in Muar, a southern Malaysian town.

Do the otak-otak above look fat and delicious? You bet, they are brought all the way from Muar, so you can be absolutely sure of its authenticity! Authentic otak-otak from Muar!
Come closer, let the aroma salivate you!

While fish otak-otak is most common, otak-otak is also commonly made with prawns.
Otak-otak usually tastes a little spicy because it’s made with a mixture fish paste and some spices including chillies, garlic, shallots, turmeric, lemon grass and coconut milk. The mixture is then wrapped in a banana leaf that has been softened by steaming, and then grilled or steamed.

Yummy! Wanna try some?
