Home made light box
Nov 21st, 2008 by Neo
So, after two weeks of laziness, I finally got the materials I need to complete the DIY light box. The main material which was lacking was a few pieces of large white paper. I got them from a local stationary shop at RM0.80 a piece, I think.

I also need a pen to mark where to cut and a pair of scissors for the cutting. The tape is needed to stick the paper into position.
With the experience I had last time, the cutting and pasting of the white paper was done much quickly. Within 30 minutes, the light box was completed. See how it stood there proudly for me to capture the historical moment!

To use it, just place a light source at each sides of the semi-transparent windows. Make sure they are bright enough, otherwise you may not be able to illuminate your object well enough.
Look at the Sigma lens cap I captured in the light box. Looks good eh?

In fact, I used study lamp, but I didn’t have two, so, I used one only, and to compensate the lack of light, I bounced my external flash off the ceiling of the light box at a very low power.
Oh, the Sigma lens cap was captured using the Sigma 18-200mm lens which the cap belongs to.

nice wor.
Wow.. Cool and economical way to make a lightbox.
But I also found a lightbox with a black like glossy background which is beautiful too. Maybe I will try making it when I back to Malaysia.
haha cool! can show more photos of various objects captured in that light box?
Wahhh.. Very nice worrr
)
What type of light you are using for??
nic,
Can, next time when I use it to capture other objects.
victor,
I simply used a normal table lamp. Of course it’s not bright enough, so I also used my SB800 speedlite.
Very professional *clap clap*
Downside is that – this light box is not foldable. So your next project should be an improved, foldable light box!
khengsiong,
That’s easy… cut up into pieces, and tape them together when you wanna use it. Haha!
nice, I still haven’t found my box yet!
[...] hanger from IKEA by myself, planned, sourced for the proper materials and constructed a photography light box, and not to mention I have also managed to get a sexy plumber to repair the leaks at my roof! [...]
