Old Town White Coffee
Dec 28th, 2008 by Neo
I took the Christmas and New Year break opportunity to steal some time in Old Town White Coffee. This particular outlet I went to is located in Bangsar, or thereabouts… near to the Pantai Hill Park. Old Town White Coffee is definitely one of the most successful restaurant chain in Malaysia.

It was unimaginable how big a coffee shop like this can grow into, just look at the sheer size of this outlet. Okay, too bad it was raining and I couldn’t take a picture from the outside to show you the building, but basically this restaurant occupies more than half of this new building. It’s big! The other tenants are Secret Recipe, an art gallery, 7-Eleven, and that’s about it.

The interior is nicely decorated just like the other Old Town outlets, but this particular one is a few times larger of course. I understand that there is a large Old Town located along Jalan Puchong too, but I haven’t had time to visit it.

Not too sure how long has this Old Town branch been in operation, but there wasn’t a lot of patrons. It was rather quiet, especially where the place is big.
Nevertheless, it was comfy inside and mind you the covered car park has direct access to this restaurant, so it’s really convenient especially when it’s raining.

Look at these comfortable sofas. I guess if I stayed near here, I could come here for afternoon tea everyday…
Let’s check out the food pics.

Some sort of nasi lemak… couldn’t remember the name, perhaps it’s called the Old Town special nasi lemak.
Also in view, are two cups of Old Town White Coffee, in original authentic cups.

Some laksa, and a bowl of instant noodle with sausage and egg. Nothing too fancy but I was told they were edible!
There are Old Town White Coffee restaurants everywhere in Malaysia now, you can even find a few in Puchong itself! Business must be really good. I heard their franchise fee has sky rocketed to RM600k! Any of you wanna franchise from them?
Old Town didn’t pay me for mentioning so much good words about them, okay.

I already boycott Old Town Cafe as their food, coffee and service quality is graded… not value for money anymore…
hi ya, old town is rather popular. i was very impressed with my first visit for the one in penang. but im not sure if their standard is the same in other outlets.
btw i think singapore has one at east coast park too
Nice ambiance.
This is the first time I heard of an upscale restaurant selling instant mee!
How much is it?
I’ve never been there. Other than Puchong & Bangsar, you know where else are the other branches (Klang Valley) ?
TZ,
Hmmm, I think their food is reasonably prized. But talking about value for money, I would prefer Pappa Kopitiam, there is one located in Bandar Puteri Puchong. Their food portion is usually larger.
QuaChee,
Old Town has really expanded fast, even crossed the border to other countries.
Che-Cheh,
There are many Old Town in Klang Valley. In Puchong itself, you can find them in Bandar Puteri (beside Giant Hypermarket), Puchong Jaya (opposite IOI Mall), Jalan Puchong (on the way to Old Klang Road). The one in Jalan Puchong is pretty big.
Can’t remember the price, but I guess it’s about RM8?
I never been to Old Town Coffee before. The food looks nice!! Yummy
The Nasi Lemak looks delicious. As for the Maggie Mee, I’d be happy to cook for you if u give me RM600k!
Yeah.. the nasi lemak is quite big portion le..
Sigh… already few months no nasi lemak for me…
wah this old town so nicely decorated. the ones that i usually go are smaller. i think their price is too overrated. now a glass of teh ais or kopi ais is rm2.60 or is it 2.80? and they shrunk the glass for at least an inch!
I think it’s one of the most successful franchise in Malaysia – they have over 100 outlets in Malaysia now. Probably will grow to 200 by end of next year?
Honestly, I don’t go there for their food – it’s mediocre at best – but for its ambience. We are paying for the ambience actually.
I think a lot of people like to go there for the nasi lemak and the toast with kaya and butter and also to go online. A lot of these people no longer go to Starbucks or Coffeebean anymore – that’s how OldTown is slowly snatching customers away from these established shops.
The other day, I sawan outlet in Ampang Point, if I’m not mistaken. That is a huge 2 storey shop lot! Maybe the franchise fee of RM600K is affordable compared to McD which requires at least RM2 million?
Victor,
No Old Town in Sarawak yet, right? Faster go open one, the franchise fee is only RM600k, so affordable for you.
Horizon,
I rather have my maggie mee at Old Town!
keeyit,
Not too big portion to me.
xin,
I think most restaurants these days charge very high, you pay for the ambiance, their staffs’ salaries, their overheads such as high rental, etc.
foongpc,
I totally agree with you. The Old Town outlets in Pantai Hill Park (off Federal Highway) and Jalan Puchong are of two storey shoplots too!
I find Old Town’s prawn noodle OK.
And yes, just as foongpc mentioned, you pay for the ambiance, or experience.
tis really look like a posh branch! de price got more expensive than other branches ar?
Khengsiong,
Old Town is a nice place to meet friends for chit chat over drinks nevertheless. I haven’t tried surfing using their wifi though, not sure fast or not?
cbenc12,
No idea on the pricing, I could never remember them.
After its rapid grows.. i can say not all outlet is good.. I hate the one in Taipan Usj. Long story to tell just to blame their rude waitress + waiter and the “too smart” cashier. The food is so so… the quality has drop for Taipan outlet. Dissapointed. OH ya the one in 3 two Square serve much better food n drinks but then back to the service it disappoint me as well.
For the price i pay i expect better service… not to forget the 10% service charge ar.
I love their ambience and coffee however their food is turning not so tasty already !!
OldTown has just opened their 105th outlet in Malaysia, OMG~ their number of outlet is getting closer to McDonald, which only have 140+ in Malaysia.
Anyone of you have seen their latest campaign? ‘Take your time’ or something like that? It’s everywhere… TVC, print, POSM… not sure if they have radio. OldTown is damn rich lor… spent so much!
I just love to patronize Old Town White Coffee.. U ask me why..? It’s everything. Great feeling to be there even on a serious business meeting. Since I’ve moved out from PJ to KLCC area now, i would like 2 know all the outlets available here.. please..
With the advertisement in the Star today.. looking at the mouth-watering Nasi Lemak set & my favorite black toast, i just can’t resist anymore….
I like to highlight this… on the 22th Sept around 9pm, my daughter and I wanted a cup of coffee in your “Old town white coffee”at Pantai Hill outlet.
We headed for the main entrance and I walked straight into the glass door. There was a loud bang when my face hit flat on the glass door, which made every head turned to look. My spectacles went out of shape and I received a 1cm cut on my eyelid.I was bleeding non stop for a while. A waiter came out to ask me, am I okay in Bahasa. He added that I am not the only one who had walk into the glass door, for a hundred had done so.
I told him I wanted to talk to the manager. the manager came out later and he apologized to me and said the coffee will be on the house. I needed to attend to my wound quickly and I said It’s okay. Before I left I told the manager that they must do something to avoid this kind of accident again. I also asked why is it not reported or bring to attention to the management since it had occurred so many times.
Precaution should be taken right away, because someone can get killed or blinded. It is a serious negligence and lapse on the part of the concerned management. I hope the company would look into this urgent matter immediately.
The swelling of my eyelid has almost subsided and my wound is healing properly. Not sure it will leave a scar or not.
I hope you’ll not ignore my comment and give me prompt reply to this matter.
Yours sincerely
