Chinese New Year snacks
Jan 27th, 2009 by Neo
Nothing much happened today. We went to visit a couple of friends whom we haven’t met for a long time and of course we talked nonsense for hours. But, we didn’t forget to indulge in the snacks the hosts served. Let me show you a few photos.

Sweet of all kinds! I felt I was young once more! Haha… as though I wasn’t.

A variety of cakes! My favorite has to be the colorful type in the middle of the picture. Shall we call it the rainbow cake?

Acar. This is eaten as a condiment for prawn crackers, and I have to admit it tasted really good! I had a lot of prawn crackers with this until the host gave me weird glances!

Peanut cake. This is a very common tidbit, but it’s absolutely delicious.

Of course Chinese New Year won’t be complete without some mandarin oranges! They look good arranged in a basket!
How was your CNY visiting?

We always have acar here during CNY. The peanut cake we call it dam haji cake. Hehehe.

GONG HEI FATT CHOI!!!
Where were those pineapples tarts?
Where’s the mandatory nga ku (arrowheads), love letters (kueh kapit), kuih bangkit, and pineapple tarts (as suggested by keeyit)?
haha! I just ate lots and lots – the fat just keep piling up! : )
So many goodies!!!
I’ve noticed that the Surimi is the popular snack for CNY? I love my peanut and cashew nut cookies…
But, can’t eat too much as that’ll affect my weight-loss regiment!
Yummy!… All the different snack …
Happy New Year everybody!

Victor,
Come, I reserve for you.
clement,
Nope. In KL now.
Happy belated Chinese New Year! Wishing you and all your loved ones a very happy and healthy year of the Ox.
It’s really interesting seeing the subtle differences in how CNY is celebrated. In HK, a ‘chuen hup’ (Cantonese dialect – direct translation being ‘everything box’) is used to place all the snacks, usually with a ‘lai see’, or ‘red packet’ on top, whereas in Malaysia the snacks are placed in individual containers.
But however the snacks are placed, they’re still yummy. Though not so much after a week or so, especially since I’ve already gained 7lbs :p
Aiya!
Pete
Judging on the snack you have, I am very much sure you were “back in the town”. Correct me if I am wrong, haha!
How come no photos of lenglui in cheongsam?
Furkids in Hong Kong,
I would certainly like to see some pictures of the “everything box” in HK! That must be really interesting.
7lbs! But I am sure you can lost more than 10lbs in no time soon!
jam,
In fact you are correct! I was back in Sibu for a few days!
Khengsiong,
No ler… no chance to spot any lenglui in cheongsam.
Yeah! I want to try those cakes!!!
Happy Niu Year and have a blessed year.
