DCIM Show Mid Valley Exhibition Center (MVEC)
Mar 30th, 2009 by Neo
All right, I guess you all have enjoyed the preview. Those smart readers would have known that it was taken in the DCIM Show 2009 which took place in MidValley Exhibition Hall 2 from 27 to 29 March. This was one of the most talked about photography event for shutterbugs.
For those uninformed, DCIM stands for Digital Camera, Imaging and Media, and DCIM Show 2009 was organized by Digital Camera Magazine, one of the most read photography magazine in Malaysia.

I was hoping I could snap some pretty girls in the Velocity Angel Search 2009 which was running concurrently with DCIM Show 2009. But I was unforgivably late and reached Mid Valley late in the afternoon, hours after the 1pm session ended.
I was however glad that I was early for the 630pm Nikon models’ shot. Nikon brought in some Caucasian models to introduce their line of digital cameras this time.

Apologize for the harsh shadow as I was directing my flash to her. I didn’t have my diffuser with me and there is no ceiling to bounce my light off.

To be frank, these models are not really gorgeously beautiful, but sometimes photographers do not care, just fire away… it’s free anyway. From all the 6 Nikon models fly in, I think the following is the most beautiful. She has that added confident look in her.

Too bad, she didn’t pause long enough for us to shoot. The few shots I got of her didn’t turn out too well, the above is the best. The photo is underexposed, most probably I mis-adjusted my speedlight to use the FP (Focal Plane) mode which one of the photographer there suggested to use. I think FP might be more suitable for fast lens.
Let’s go back to the ground. This wasn’t a huge event in fact, but quite a number of names were there, including Nikon of course, Canon, Panasonic Lumix, MSI, Kingston, Kingmax, Sandisk (SD card, CF cards), Memorax (DVDR/HDD), Imation (storage media), and Western Digital (storage media). Was Sony there? Can’t recall.

As usual, Nikon had some big guns for photography enthusiast like us to get our hands dirty. Look at that, this bro might be saying “my gun is even larger than this”! Haha…
I thought of going back on Sunday, but couldn’t make it. Next year, I will be back for more! DCIM 2010!!

Agree that the model in 4th picture is pretty.
BTW, this year got Japan GT or not?
eh boss i think the first one quite pretty also leh…
kakaka, cant agree more: “my gun is even larger than this”
2nd pict & 4th pic models are very pretty.
I didn’t know about this event.
Wow!!! Nikon had upgraded their pretty show girls?!
OMG~
Further soften your flash to make it a fill flash (-0.3EV or -0.7EV or maybe even -1EV) and and the shadow will be avoided.
In my experience, those “paid” models on stage are usually not that hot… hot one are usually in GT Roadshow, normally found next to not-so-important race car, or distributing flyers, most of them are part timer, or even student.
2nd and 4th shots are nicest!
I was there too. Can see some old aunties standing around and looking confused at why so many people are taking photos of the one gal on stage. HAHA!
Also, I spied some gals looking super bored while their bf massage the big guns at the Nikon and Canon booths. Kekeke… I should have taken those shots. Makes for an “interesting” side story.
khengsiong,
Not sure got Japan GT or not.
nic,
Your gun is a Canon, Nikon, or Sony?
Che-Cheh,
You are going to Sepang to catch up with Kimi Raikkonen, right?
Anston,

Calvin Foo,
If we do that, the models will be underexposed? Turn out black face, how?
