Gorgeous Gao Yuan Yuan

When it comes to porcelain-skinned beauties with bewitching smiles, you can’t go wrong if you look East. Towards China, that is. They seem to have oodles of long-legged beauties with flawless complexion of different types – sexy, sultry sirens or fresh-faced sweetie-pies.
This time around, we are taking about Gao Yuan Yuan – model cum actress from Beijing. Of the sweet girly type, what sets her apart from the others is that she did not graduate from any drama institutions. Instead, she stumbled into the entertainment industry after being spotted while shopping.
She was cast in an ice cream commercial for Meadow Gold and then landed a minor role in the comedy ‘Spicy Love Soup’. But it was the advertisement for a mint breath freshener that made her a household name and soon after, she got the leading role in the TV series ‘The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber’.
Of her looks, I would not say she is drop-dead gorgeous as she can look quite ordinary sometimes. But there is still a little something that men finds appealing. And it is quite interesting how different she looks with a hairstyle change and a little makeup.
At first glance, I seriously thought the pictures were all of different girls! But when you look closer, then you can see Yuan Yuan’s ‘special’ look coming through.
According to Hong Kong actor, Jacky Chan, Yuan Yuan has a chaste look that cannot be found among Hong Kong actresses. He was so impressed that he cast her in his movie ‘Rob-B-Hood’.
And perhaps China agrees with him as she was also selected as torch bearer for 2008’s Olympics. She covered the Nanjing city in Jiangsu province, looking very cute with her headband.
However, for her role in ‘Nanking! Nanking!’, it’s a different story altogether. She commented that her role as a middle-aged teacher who helped others during Japanese occupation of Nanking in 1937, haunts her but allows her to grow as an actress.
And while she looks forward to growing out of girl next door image as she tackles other projects in the future, let’s hope we will still get pictures of her sweet smile.
