Hotel Review – Century Pines Resort, Cameron Highlands
Jun 20th, 2010 by mayan
Looking for a hotel to spend the night at when you are in Cameron Highlands? One of the better options available out there would be The Century Pines Resort and Hotel, a gorgeous 3-star hotel located in the heart of Tanah Rata. But don’t let that fool you. Century Pines defies its 3-star status and proceeds to offer much more than its official ratings.
Finding this hotel wouldn’t be too difficult, just drive up the highlands from Ringlet into the town of Tanah Rata, and you would be able to see the hotel on your right, exactly opposite the police station.
As you drive into the huge driveway, you would immediately be able to identify its Tudor-styled architectural designs. Conveniently, there are plenty of car parks available both in the basement and the hotel’s compound. If the outside was largely English in terms of influence, you would be surprised to find the interiors largely influenced by Balinese design and architectural pieces. The hotel offers 153 rooms for selection on both the old wing and the new wing.
The additional new wing has increased the room capacity as well has added extras such as a new restaurant, lobby lounge, the basement car park and several other facilities. Stand-out facilities include a well-equipped gym, a decent spa with sauna facilities, conference rooms, a ballroom, as well as a souvenir store where you could obtain decent memorabilia of Cameron’s.
In terms of room choices, you could opt for the Deluxe Room (suited for couples) where you have the choice of opting for two single beds or a large super-king sized bed. The spacious room comes with a long-bath and water-heater, as well as a TV with selected Astro channels, coffee and tea making facilities, a mini-bar and a safety box. You get your own balcony where you can enjoy the cool highland air, and if you are lucky enough to get a room on the ground floor of the old wing, you would have your own private garden! Room rates are fairly decent, as you would pay (inclusive of breakfast for two) approximately RM235.00 nett on a weekday (Sundays to Thursdays), RM259.00 on weekends (Fridays to Saturdays) and RM285.00 during peak periods.
Or if you are planning to bring your family for a relaxing vacation, you would be better off with the Duplex Suite, a 1 and a half floor suite that comes with 2 bathrooms, a dry kitchen, and a DVD player in addition to everything else that you get from a Deluxe Room. You could get this suite (inclusive of breakfast for three) for RM390.00 nett on all days of the week, except during peak periods when you can expect to pay RM490.00 for this suite.
I managed to book the Deluxe Room on the second floor of the new wing, and was pleased to find that I had an extremely comfortable room with plenty of wooden features in it. The Balinese influence within the room was largely evident with the wooden carvings on the wall that made the room look classy. The bed was exceptionally large (I chose the super-king option), and comfort was never in question. One extremely pleasing aspect within the room was the existence of many power sockets, something that definitely augurs well in terms of convenience.
The bath was well-maintained, and spotlessly clean, making my stay even more pleasurable. The water did take a bit of time to heat up, yet I must admit that I expected just that, considering that I was in Cameron Highland’s! There was no need for air-conditioning, as the temperature outside the room was well below 20 degrees C at night!
After a deeply comforting sleep, I managed to drag myself out of bed in the morning down to the restaurant where breakfast was served. And trust me, it was quite a spread! Plenty of sandwiches, toast with different variants of jams and butter, fresh vegetables and salad, eggs, sausages and several other types of food were available, together with refreshing tea or coffee to start your day on a fresh note!
After the little ‘feast’, I had some time left to head to the spa for a rejuvenating experience of body massage to rid of bodily-fatigue. The experience was decent enough, but the price of my hour-long massage session was a hefty RM120, pricey to say the least! Overall I had an extremely pleasant stay at Century Pines, and am definitely looking forward to paying a visit to this hotel again!
A brilliant spot to enjoy the crisp, cool air of Cameron Highlands as you seek for an escape from the usual hustle and bustle of city life, why not pay Century Pines a visit and create your own unforgettable experience?

Well, I would consider staying in Century Pines Resort and Hotel when I go Cameron Highlands with my university friends.
