Kinabalu National Park: Malaysia’s First World Heritage Site

Designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in December 2000 for its role as one of the most important biological sites in the world, Kinabalu National Park is a travel destination that offers nature in abundance.
The park itself is located on the west coast of Sabah, west Malaysia, on the Northern region of the island of Borneo. The park covers an area of 754 square kilometers surrounding Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain in Malaysia as well as the island of Borneo.

Besides climbing Mount Kinabalu, there are a host of other locations in which you could visit to enjoy the natural beauty of Sabah.
The Canopy Walk
First of all, there is the Canopy Walk, which is a bridge that is suspended 30 meters above the forest floor, giving you almost a bird’s eye view from the canopy.
The Poring Hot Springs
For a bit of rest and relaxation, head down to the Poring Hot Springs where you can enjoy the warm waters with temperatures ranging from 49º to 60º C. 30 minutes away from the Hot Springs, there is also the Kipungit Waterfalls.

Another attraction close by is the Poring Orchid Conservation Centre, that houses 1,200 species of orchids that are found within Kinabalu Park. The main flowering season of the orchids are from October to February.
Within the park, you can also enjoy Borneo’s first butterfly farm, that features a garden, a nursery and a hatchery for butterflies.
If you visit Sabah, a trip to Kinabalu National Park is a must. Make sure you don’t just climb Mt Kinabalu though, take time to chill out at these awesome sights. The natural beauty is just breathtaking!
