Adabco Boutique Hotel, Adelaide

It’s been a while since I updated this blog. In case you’re wondering, I’ve been enjoying myself in the land down under… beautiful Australia. Here’s one of my stopovers in Adelaide. It’s been ages since I last went there. Was searching for a hotel online and came across this Adabco Boutique Hotel. I’ve always wondered what is a boutique hotel? I mean… does it sell clothes or something haha? Anyway the photos on the web showed that it was an old building, but had been done up pretty nicely with modern finishings inside. Here’s a quick review and some pics of the hotel for you.
Adabco Boutique Hotel is located on 223 Wakefield Street in the eastern part of the city fringe. It is within walking distance of Adelaide CBD but I wouldn’t advise staying here if you need to walk into town often. It is a good 15 minutes walk to the city core and places like Rundle Street Mall and Chinatown. With temperatures of 10 degrees and storm winds blowing at you, it’s not a very pleasant walk indeed.
Here’s the modest entrance to the reception.
The front of the lobby area. On top of the cabinet, you might notice something. It is actually a Ram’s horn covered in crystals. No clothes in this boutique but at least there was something interesting to see
And here’s the main sitting area of the lobby and the eating area. It’s where we have breakfast and read the free newspapers in the morning. The breakfast was a simple continental breakfast with toast & cereals. It was nice to taste the Aussie Vegemite again
Here’s the room pictures. Very modern & comfortable indeed. I slept like a log.
This is the huge desk space. It was really good for setting up your laptop and doing work. I should have been updating this blog from here but laziness got the better of me. The TV next to it was in an awkward position though… lying on the bead you’d have to turn your head in one direction to watch it.

The bathroom was equally modern and comfortable. No complaint at all.
Perhaps the main drawback is the lack of views. These beautiful wooden shutters are all you can expect. Open it and it looks into a brick wall haha!
If you’re not satisfied with basic continental breakfast or want to cook maggie mee, then this area is for you. There’s a kitchenette with a couple of tables to have a yarn with your mates!
How much did it cost? I paid A$125/night for two nights stay. Taxi was around A$20-25 from Adelaide Airport. For some reason Adelaide hotels seem to be more expensive than Sydney although Adabco was decent value for the nicely-refurbished comfort you get.
And the Adelaide weather? We were greeted with sub-10 degree temperature and gale force winds when we arrived. But the weather cleared in a most timely way and we managed to walk around town a bit and even make our way to Glenelg Beach on the tram.
