A View of Grand Dorsett Subang Hotel with my new Fish-Eye Lens

Following a recent visit to Grand Dorsett Subang Hotel, I was pleasantly surprised by the hip and trendy renovation that has just taken place. If you recall, the Grand Dorsett was previously Sheraton Subang which was kind of run down for a 5-star hotel. Not too long ago, I was trying to use the washroom in the grand lobby but to my shock and horror could hardly find enough space to open and close the toilet door! But all that has changed since the renovation. Upon review, I noticed that the lobby washroom has been fully fitted out with more space, new deco and a hand dryer that is so nice to use.
The hotel’s management was kind enough to take me on a tour of the newly fitted rooms. Itching to try out my new fish eye lens, I gladly accepted the offer… so here are some photos of the rooms for you.
Isn’t the Fish-eye great for a hotel corridor shot? But it does produce some weird effects for the room shots as you see below.
The marble bathroom was pretty awesome… feels classy and modern at the same time. Definitely Five Star here. See the transparent glass wall below? Fear not, there’s a shade that rolls down to block out unwanted perverts. Or for the romantic honeymoon couple, the shade can be permanently disabled.
Here’s a room with Twin Beds. It comes with a classy shower, but strange how they have the transparent glass wall in the bathroom too.

And here’s the lounge on the 12th Floor. I’m now back to my Standard Lens as you can see. You can have breakfast and business meetings here. Right now, Grand Dorsett Subang Hotel has a promo package for RM398++ inclusive of room and breakfast in the lounge.
Sometimes you will see photographs of beautifully huge hotel rooms on their official websites, only to discover that the reality is much smaller. Well, the trick is to look at the TV screen. If it shows a distorted convex looking picture, then the photo is taken from a wide-angle lens. See the above photo? The TV screen looks normal right? Therefore no wide-angle lens here.
It’s the first time I’ve been up here and the views are quite expansive. You can see most of Subang and beyond. Here’s a fish-eye shot again.
Grand Dorsett Subang is owned and managed by Kosmopolito Hotels International Ltd, a company listed on the Hong Kong Exchange. Kosmopolito owns a chain of 3,4 and 5 star hotels all over Hong Kong, China and Malaysia. Management has done a great job so far to revive this hotel after taking over from Sheraton. I’m sure there will be much more to come!
