Funny Road Signs… only in Malaysia

Laughter is the best medicine, they say. But when it’s not convenient to laugh out loud, a small smile will do. You’ll still get some endorphins and exercise those facial muscles.
And it does not take much to elicit those smiles. You just need to keep your eyes peeled and you’ll come across some gems like these below:
This one deserves a snicker and an eye roll as you wonder if the person who ordered the sign is for real. Talk about stating the obvious!
Some of the funniest signs though are not so ‘public’. Take the one below in a men’s room:
It’s direct and polite (note the ‘please’ and ‘thank you’) but probably have deflated more than a few male egos.
For this sign, I guess the shop owner is looking for a bit of consideration from the patrons to protect everyone’s hearing. But my advice to you would be to open your eyes and look out for any spit on the floor.
But at least the sign is easily understood. The one below left me wide-eyed and scratching my head. What is it that I am not supposed to test or eat?
If there’s one sign that made me smile and applaud, it’s the one below:
It certainly seems to be more effective than the usual ‘Fine for Littering’ which can be interpreted in more than one way.
What is encouraging is that not all Malaysians are bad in English. We still have at least one who can actually spell properly and take the trouble to educate the rest. I guess if there was more space, the person can also correct the line ‘Buy as perform good deeds’ (huh?!!) and maybe extend a hand to Mr. Unfriendly House Owner as well.
Although the neighbours may get a grin out of the sign, I guess it will be a cold day in Hell before they get a smile from the house owner. I wonder what will put a smile on his face. This article, maybe?
