OK the future’s here! Well, not exactly the future, but pretty much what you can expect from high-tech laptops of the future has been epitomized and unveiled by Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

Eagerly awaited, brilliantly unleashed, the iPad looks like a big iPhone, but most experts would say not quite as good as expected.

Starting from USD499 (for 16GB) it is affordable enough for most Americans to buy as a second or more portable laptop. But what can you store for 16GB these days huh?

Like the iPhone there are a bundle of cool applications and software with it. Hold and work it in any direction, and it functions with a virtual keyboard!

Cool or what?

Conventional keyboards, take a step back! Slide and unlock the iPad, and watch YouTube files in HD and exceptional quality, flick through albums with the iPhoto, listen to music that plays with an enhanced version of the iTunes, and explore super-fast connection for GoogleMaps. Powered by Apple’s very own 1GHz A4 Processor, this comes as little surprise.

iPhone applications run smoothly on this amazing tablet PC, and if you are a fan of gaming, expect super-clear graphic images with outstanding video acceleration features.

Battery life is at 10 hours (respectable enough), and the new addition of iBooks allows online reading anywhere, on the go! No integrated digital camera though, so that might be a minus point here.

The iPad weight 1.5 pounds… that would be a nice change if I can bring it around for business presentations.

Is it time to throw out your old laptop and opt for one of these? Maybe not just yet. The iPad looks cool and everything but there are some minuses as well:

  • No multitasking capability. For this, try the Nokia N900 instead.
  • No webcam and main camera (No video chat despite having 3G)
  • No Adobe Flash Player.
  • No HDMI (people are getting ridiculous….).
  • No built in USB port (needs an adapter).
  • iPad screen is 4:3 not 16:10 widescreen. It’s not that great for watching movies.
  • Virtual keyboard suck for most people.
  • Battery life not on par Amazon Kindle (10 hours vs 1 week).
  • Non-removable battery.
  • Storage is not expandable.
  • Weird position of Home Button.
  • No GSM and no T-Mobile 3G (Problem for Americans).
  • Only runs Apps from Apple App Store.

    • And the name, doesn’t iPad sound a bit like Intimate Pad?
